Customers Spot Cutbacks

Many restaurants are responding to the ongoing recession with cost-cutting tricks. So we asked AOL users to share examples of what they are seeing when dining out. For the second time, we round up the money-saving maneuvers AOL users have spotted: some sneaky, some forthright and many disappointing.

[Keep in mind that these are individual claims of personal experiences and may or may not be reflective of the actual policy at any of the restaurants mentioned.]

Why does this thing keep erasing my comments if I stop typing for a few minutes?Anyways...
To the person complaining about Mimi's Cafe- I have been eating there for over 10 years and never got a muffin with my meal, just the assorted breads and rolls (which are great by the way), no matter the size of my party and no matter the location. This person is lucky they got special treatment for so long!
To the Long John Silver's commentor- I worked there for many years and I still eat there, and I'm quite confident that the size of the chicken planks has not changed at all. The fry portions, however, were extremely skimpy even back when I worked there in the mid 90's, when the economy was just fine!
I don't mind these places cutting back for the most part. We all have to deal with these tough times somehow. I don't like it when places are dishonest though- like if they said something was supposed to come with a certain amount, then you get less- like 6 shrimp on the menu but they serve you 5. That's dishonest. Increasing a price or cutting a portion size when the size is not specifically listed on the menu is not.
