There's one reason not to cheer for Independence Day: It's one of the deadliest holiday for alcohol-related car crashes. Statistics gathered over the past 25 years show that, on average, nearly 51 percent of all deadly traffic crashes on July 4 are related to alcohol -- although that percentage varies from year to year.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has been tracking car crash statistics for a quarter of a century. Holidays that sometimes rival the Fourth of July for fatalities include New Year's Day, Labor Day, Memorial Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Eric Bolton, spokesperson for NHTSA, says that when people think of a deadly holiday "the intuitive thought would be New Year's Day." However, that association may be precisely why people stay off the roads on New Year's than they do on July 4, he says. (While the New Year's statistics are totaled over three days, the Fourth of July stats are for one day.)
Two years ago, 200 people reportedly died in car accidents on July 4. Out of that total, 44 percent died as a result of alcohol-impaired driving. By comparison, 391 people died that same year during a three-day period surrounding New Year's Day (NHTSA judges the length of a holiday based on which day of the week it falls). In that case, 40 percent were alcohol-related.
No matter what day it is, most crash fatalities occur on two-lane roads. Weekends are more dangerous than weekdays and more people die while driving in rain compared to snow or sleet. December, January and February are generally the most dangerous months for car fatalities.
NHTSA's 2007 annual report (2008 statistics will be released this fall) also states that the most dangerous time to drive is between midnight to 3 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. In addition, half of all fatal crashes that year occurred at speeds of 55 mph or more.

Nobody gets drunk by accident! Drunkedness is intentional! Under my new law, if you drink and drive and are caught, you lose your left hand, right at the scene, Snip - Snip! Have your own medical supplies with you, because We the SHEEPle furnish NO free Medical Assistance, (My Heart Pumps Pee-Pee for you!) Also have a cell phone handy since we will NOT call an ambulance, Etc., etc.

Most trouble is caused by DrunkScumBags, DrugScumBags, PoliticalScumBags! This has to STOP and stop NOW, not ten years from today after the Court House Whores, (lawyers), and politicans DEBATE the matter! What's to debate?

Punishment has to be so very serious and non flexable as to be a serious and effective deterrent. Set Certain!

Please Note: Nothing in my Words of Wisdom mentions anything about 'Sentenceing We the IDIOT SHEEPle!' When these DrunkScumBags, CrimeScumBags, DrugScumBags become mere 'Customers' of The Law Enforcement Growth Industry, via silly and non-effective incarceration, it is We the SHEEPle who are "sentenced!" (There are more than 2,000,000 in prison and that does not include those in local and county jails.)

It is We the SHEEPle who pay for EVERYTHING the ScumBag wears, does, eats, uses, looks at, and for what? Is crime going down?

As OUR once-blessed America decends, are there any among you that really beleive matters such as these will improve? We now tolerate every form of evil. We have silently allowed our enemies to all but banish Yahweh/God from OUR America... Kick Him out, His Blessings go with!

What exactly is the return for OUR invested Tax Monies? Zero! Most get out and do it over again! How silly of We the SHEEPle to allow such a waste! In most cares we even pay for BOTH the Prosecution AND the Defense! How Insane is that? Totally NUTS!

I also said that the other day, why make a car over 65 if we aren't allowed to go over ********* a money maker! So are DUIs.

Also, sometimes people dont have someone to take them home. A cab is too expensive to be taking for over 10 miles 2 days of the week and PT completely sucks and youd be luck to get home in 2 hours for a ride that would take 30 min. Also, can't walk home drunk because you'll be cited for public drunkenness. Lose all around!

I agree if you take there cars to sale it and give the proceeds to the family you hurt... Ppl will still find away to drive. A car in their parents, spouse or grandparents name. They will still drive without a driving license. Ppl just need to be more careful if you are traveling this holiday weekend or any other holiday weekend.. Ask yourself what is the big rush? If you want to get there quicker you should FLY. You destination is not going anywhere Vegas, NY ...etc will still be there when you get there... and DANG IT ... buy a BLUETOOTH ...

JDEAN13 - You are off your rocker. You could have 2 beers, 1 glass of wine or a cocktail and get one. Its too easy. If you take the cars away from people that get DUI, you will probably have half of the US carless. Talk about a hit on the economy. If you kill someone, obviously you should do time.
