Lenin must be rolling over in his grave. Just 17 years after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the one-time capital of communism is now home to the world's most expensive cup of coffee. The average cup of joe in Moscow is $10.19. Other cities with a pricey cup of joe include Paris at $6.77, Athens at $6.62 and Beijing at $6.28.

6. Tokyo, Japan
Cup of Coffee: $5.04
Koh-hee is Japanese for coffee, and while this is obviously related to the English word, there are differences between the styles of the drink. Koh-hee used to be even more expenive, but the price has come down drastically in the last decade with the invasion of Starbucks. Unlike in America, Koh-hee is a specialized drink, signifying special occasions. This is one of the reasons it would cost you so much.

5. Berlin, Germany
Cup of Coffee: $5.15
Coffee is not only one of the top beverages bought by Germans, but it is an important trade product as well. Their coffee is renowned for full flavor with less stomach-irritating acid. This could be one of the reasons it is so expensive, selling for an average of $5.15 in Berlin.

4. Beijing, China
Cup of Coffee: $6.28
Today, coffee is fast catching on in China, regardless of the fact that it is still about one tenth of tea consumption. And coffee grown here is beginning to climb the quality ladder as well. Even though industry officials say Chinese production is too small for some roasters to pay much attention, a cup of coffee in Beijing isn't cheap.

Greek coffee is usually a sweet blend of Brazilian coffee and chicory, made the same way as Turkish coffee, in ibriks. Frappes, made with instant Nescafe mixed with milk, water, sugar and ice, are a huge part of Greek society. As one of the more expensive cups of coffee on the list, a cup of coffee in Athens would be $6.62.
