Rebate processor goes out of business taking your rebates with it

rebatesAs if you needed another reason to be wary of rebates, one of the largest rebate processing companies, Continental Promotion Group, just filed for bankruptcy. CPG, more widely known as RebateStatus.com, no longer has enough money to cover the rebate checks it has been processing. This means if you have a rebate check from the company, you shouldn't try and cash it unless you care to be hit with a NSF fee when the check bounces.

RebateStatus.com handles rebates for many companies including:
  • Costco
  • Newegg.com
  • Canon
  • Logitech
  • Home Depot

Black Friday roundup is back, Best Buy, Target, Staples and more

Black Friday is almost here with every day bringing more ads full of deep discounts. While many of these ads are unconfirmed leaks from stores like Best Buy, Circuit City and Target; several store including Staples and Dell have confirmed their ads with Dealnews.com. Additionally, T-Mobile and Bare Necessities have shared their Black Friday specials directly with WalletPop.com readers.

As we approach the week of Black Friday there will be plenty more ads coming out and more information on when to get in line or to log on in order to get the best deals. We are still waiting to see what Amazon and Walmart as well as many others bring to the table this year. Keep checking back, we'll be sure to let you know what to look for on Black Friday as well as what deals to expect on Cyber Monday!

Best Buy
Best Buy's leaked ad brings several tempting door busters to the table, including a 50" plasma for $899 and a 32" LCD for $399. There's a well equipped Toshiba laptop sporting a 15.4' screen, dual core processor, 3 GB of ram and a 160 GB hard drive for $379! There's also one of the best deals on an Xbox 360 so far, including two extra games on top of those which come with the holiday bundle for a total of four games in the $299 package.

Circuit City
Circuit City ups the ante this year by offering several name-brand HDTV deals on Black Friday including a 42" Samsung Plasma for $699 and a 32" Toshiba for $449! At these prices, there's no reason to go with a store brand when you can enjoy the quality of Samsung or Toshiba. Circuit City, which has filed for bankruptcy and is closing many stores, is also discounting numerous video games and Blu-Ray titles for Black Friday. Even though many of these titles have been out for a few months, they make a great gift to go with one of the many Xbox 360 deals going on.

Black Friday ads leaked! News on Sears, CVS, Walgreens, Ralph Lauren and more

Black Friday shirt at gottadeal.comAfter a month filled with more financial turmoil than most of us can stomach, there is good news at the end of the tunnel: The first batch of Black Friday ads have begun to surface. In spite of -- and likely because of --the dour retail predictions extending through the third quarter of next year, retailers are cutting prices to coax consumers into their stores. Remember, you can keep track on our running scorecard of Black Friday deals and discounts.

Let's jump right into the leaked ads!

Sears

Sears is the first department store to have a leaked ad this year but the prices for HDTVs and GPS units are much higher than we expected. Thankfully I don't see Sears setting the bar for HDTV prices this season. Dan de Grandpre from Dealnews.com also weighed in on the rumored sales prices for us, stating, "Sears, which is struggling, has been irrelevant to most tech buyers since the 1980s. In fact, many of its purported Black Friday TV "deals" are the same as or higher than prices you'd find on a comparison engine like PriceGrabber."

That said, don't count Sears out of your Black Friday plans completely; Dan recommends Sears for shoppers interested in Kenmore home appliances and Craftsman tools. The leaked ad has great deals on a kitchenware set, several craftsman tools as well as incredible discounts on Kenmore washers and dryers; in fact too many to list here, so go look for yourself!

The Sears ad comes on the heels of Ace Hardware's leaked ad which has been pulled until a final version is released. It appears Sears may be going the same route. According to Dan, Sears is already working on pulling this ad from many sites as they say it doesn't represent their Black Friday offerings. This is one of the reasons why Dealnews.com doesn't post leaked ads. Let's hope Sears takes this ad back to the drawing board and starts cutting prices across the board.

Will the economic crisis affect Black Friday? Predictions from Dealnews.com

Apple on Black FridayBlack Friday has traditionally been one of the busiest and most frantic shopping days of the year but with Christmas sales down in 2007 and the economy looking like a leftover fruitcake, many people are wondering if Black Friday can live up to past performances.
