Cyber Monday: Expect it to come several times this year

Filed under: Shopping, Black Friday, Cyber Monday

Cyber Monday deals traditionally come once a year, the Monday after Thanksgiving, when online retailers cut prices to lure in workers who have returned to work but still need to get some shopping done.

This year there will be plenty of Cyber Monday sales on Nov. 30, but according to the CEO of Coupon Craze, that's just the start of Cyber Monday deals this year.

By working with retailers and observing the online shopping trends, which show that online shopping jumps significantly on the Mondays leading up to Christmas, Christian Gordun, the Coupon Craze CEO, has come up with a list of additional Cyber Mondays and a Shipping Monday to keep in mind.

Where to find Cyber Monday deals

With so many retailers offering pre-Black Friday sales, Thanksgiving Day sales and of course Black Friday deals, you might have forgotten about the upcoming Cyber Monday sales!

Even though many stores are trying to keep their Cyber Monday sales under wraps until after Black Friday we found several places to go looking for the best bargains on Cyber Monday.

First off is the CouponShack which has a large collection of Cyber Monday coupon codes for Kohl's and many other small retailers who are offering Cyber Monday specials.

RetailMeNot is another great place to look for Cyber Monday discounts. The RetailMeNot Cyber Monday page currently has some coupons from last Cyber Monday mixed in but there are still some geed deals to be found. You can also install the browser toolbar for FireFox or Internet Explorer and be alerted coupons for any store you visit.

Shop outside and still save online

According to the National Retail Federation, 42.4% of the U.S. population plans to shop for gifts online this holiday season. It's convenient, makes for pain free price comparisons, and saves a good bit of money in sales tax.

Savvy readers have mastered the art of collecting coupon codes online and know never to shop a national retailer's Web site without first checking for discounts.

But there are some things about physically shopping that can't be replaced. The social aspect of spending the day out with family, pairing up with a favorite shopping buddy, and adding lunch or spa visit to make holiday shopping more than just braving the crowds.

Cyber Monday's the day for crowd-hating shoppers like me

Filed under: Bargains, Shopping, Black Friday

Although Consumer Reports expects one in every four consumers to be out bargain-hunting on Black Friday, I'm not fond of crowds, so I'll be taking a walk in the woods and watching football. I do most of my shopping online, and Cyber Monday, the first Monday after Black Friday, as been anointed as the day that online merchants roll out some of their best deals of the season. In 2007, online merchants raked in $730 million in sales that day.

The National Retail Federation's site Cybermonday.com, serves as a portal to 550 companies offering special online deals on Cyber Monday. While I suspect many of the deals duplicate those offered to flesh-and-blood shoppers of merchants which have both virtual and brick-and-mortar stores, such as Target and Best Buy, CyberMonday.com promises special hourly deals that day. We'll see.

When shopping on that Monday, I'd suggest using the comparison shopper on CyberMonday.com, then accessing the site directly to compare. Also check the print ads from your Thanksgiving Day newspaper. Don't forget to check for refurbished items on sites such as Apple's, too. You could score a deal there.

Best of all: on Cyber Monday, there's no need to get up at 4:00 a.m. and wear shin guards, elbow pads and your most comfortable shoes. A warm pair of jammies would work just fine.
