Buy one Dodge Ram get the second free!

University Dodge in Miami has taken a page out of the Payless Shoes playbook and is offering Buy One Get One on all new Dodge Rams in stock. The dealership in Miami is offering the major incentive in an effort to clear out the existing stock on slow moving pickup trucks.

This isn't the first time a car dealership has offered a BOGO deal on cars. The closest KIA dealership to me is almost always running a deal for a free sedan with the purchase of a minivan, but it is the first time I have seen such a deal on a Dodge Ram or for that matter any car manufactured by a Big Three American carmaker. Who knows, maybe a BOGO Bailout is just what they need to bring in some quick cash!

If I were in the market for a truck right now, I'd be hitting Craigslist for someone to split the deal with since the only thing better than a buy one get one deal on a new car is to phone a friend and get one for half price. Right now University Dodge still has over 60 Rams in stock but if you want to get in on this deal I'd get moving, with two trucks leaving the lot on every sale, even with a slow month University Dodge could have an empty lot before you know it.

He's mad as hell about grocery discount tactics

Filed under: Food, Ripoffs and Scams, Shopping

It's happened to every one of us who has ever shopped at a grocery store. It's a variation on the old bait and switch game which draws you into a store with promises of a great deal on something you want or need. The problem is that once you are in their door, you may find that the deal you came to take advantage of is not really such a good deal after all because the store raised their margin on your target item prior to creating their " special discount." Blogger Paul Michael examines the problem in his blog post, "I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take this any more."

The solution can be as simple as using a bit of basic math to verify that you truly are getting the discount that you think you are. When the store offers you a two for one deal, don't assume that buying two of the item will save you money. Take your total cost for the items and divide it by two, then compare that price per item to the regular price for buying just one of them. Often times you'll find that the only advantage to be had is that the store has sold you a second item.

A great gift: The BOGO Flashlight

This Christmas is looking pretty interesting. On the one hand, we have the recent discovery that many of our consumer goods are coated in lead, heavy metals, sarin, dioxin, and various other substances that will cause our flesh to melt off at the slightest touch. On the other hand, we have the equally surprising discovery that enormous amounts of debt that people can't afford to pay back can lead to trouble. In the middle, we are also being reminded, once again, that the Holidays are about something more than the mere accumulation of material goods and consumption of fattening foods.

So it looks like this Christmas will focus on a return to values.

If you're looking for something a little more values-oriented, you might check out the BOGO flashlight. BOGO, which stands for "buy one, give one," produces waterproof, durable, solar-powered flashlights that it is attempting to distribute to needy groups around the world. The brainchild of Mark Bent, a former diplomat and oilman, the BOGOlight can give seven hours of light on a single recharge, and will last up to three years.
