After the OK was finally given, the entire Walmart Black Friday ad has been posted and it contains a lot of deals. Best of all, you won't have to wait outside for any of the savings since Walmart will be open all night over Thanksgiving -- although you will have to wait until 5 a.m. to make your purchases.
A recent survey performed by Dealnews.com found that a quarter of shoppers are planning to spend less on Black Friday.

The survey further found that fewer people will be shopping on Black Friday as a whole and that women shop for other people on Black Friday, whereas men shop for themselves.

It's no shocker that men do more shopping on themselves on Black Friday, since I know few fellows who would brave a Black Friday crowded for anyone other than themselves.
Continue reading Spending less on Black Friday? For Identity Thieves and scammers, though, this is the time of year to roll out new ways of going after your identity, your money and your credit.

WalletPop has already warned you about the numerous ways that online scam artists are trying to dupe you with fakes, but we wanted to make sure that you are as educated as you can be when it comes to safeguarding your information and money. We went to three industry experts to find out how to stay safe on Cyber Monday and through the rest of your holiday shopping.

To get a better idea of just how much phishing and identity theft scams will increase in the next month, we spoke to Lyn Oakes, Chief Marketing Officer of Trusted ID.

"We do expect that there will be more traffic being generated by identity thieves because of the holiday season than has been in the last several months," Oakes said in a phone interview. "We think phishing emails are going to rise."
Continue reading How to stay safe as you shop on Cyber Monday and beyond

How to stay safe as you shop on Cyber Monday and beyond originally appeared on WalletPop Blog on Thu, 19 Nov 2009 10:00:00 EST. The ad claimed that Apple would be going against tradition and offering huge cuts across the Apple lineup.

Just how big were the claimed discounts? The ad claims that Apple will offer up to 30% off of all iPods, up to 25% off of all Macs and up to 15% off of accessories, software and other Mac hardware. Needless to say, these would be big, and I mean BIG, discounts for Apple to pull out on Black Friday. If they were true, that is.
Continue reading Black Friday: Fake Apple ad excites and disappoints fanboys

Black Friday: Fake Apple ad excites and disappoints fanboys originally appeared on WalletPop Blog on Wed, 18 Nov 2009 13:45:00 EST.
Rapleaf, a social media monitoring company, claims that by analyzing public information such as the friends you have on Twitter it can assess how creditworthy you are and how likely you are to respond to advertising.

Rapleaf monitors public digital conversations and stores away your Twitter and Facebook status updates, restaurant reviews, Amazon book reviews and plenty of other online public information in its database of 378 million profiles to profile you.
Continue reading Bad Idea: Company claims to know credit score from Twitter friends

Bad Idea: Company claims to know credit score from Twitter friends originally appeared on WalletPop Blog on Tue, 17 Nov 2009 16:15:00 EST.
Sure you can wait until Thanksgiving to look at the ads, but who wants to fight off tryptophan to look for the best deal?

The practice of posting ads online has long been a thorn in retailers' sides, and some of them even continue to fight the leaks, but others are embracing the Internet and releasing their ads for all to see.

Just like Staples did last week, Meijer officially released its Black Friday ad for all to see.

The Midwest retailer has several deals that might actually be worth standing in line for, especially since the limited quantities are high compared to what we normally see.
Continue reading Black Friday: Buy Wii at Meijer and get $50 coupon

Black Friday: Buy Wii at Meijer and get $50 coupon originally appeared on WalletPop Blog on Tue, 17 Nov 2009 14:45:00 EST.
Last month I found out just how easy it is to tally up yet another fee on a credit card by purchasing a new part for our Kenmore dryer. After dealing with the cruel and unusual punishment that is Sears' customer support, which simply bounced me from automated menu to automated menu, I decided to take things into my own hands and find a replacement heater online.

Continue reading Enjoy foreign transaction fees, without ever leaving home!

Enjoy foreign transaction fees, without ever leaving home! originally appeared on WalletPop Blog on Tue, 17 Nov 2009 11:00:00 EST. Both the Office Depot Black Friday ad and the Dell Black Friday ad have appeared online and show a selection of cheap laptops, digital cameras, monitors and other electronics.

If you are looking to stay warm and toasty on Black Friday you can hit up Dell where there are deals to be found on netbooks, notebooks and desktops as well as a few decently priced accessories.
Continue reading Black Friday: Office Depot and Dell ads focus on laptops and more

Black Friday: Office Depot and Dell ads focus on laptops and more originally appeared on WalletPop Blog on Fri, 13 Nov 2009 14:00:00 EST.
Most often, when searching for Black Friday deals, you don't think to look at major appliances. But this year Best Buy has 20-50% off many appliances, including a new Samsung washer and dryer set at half price. Other appliance discounts include refrigerators, Dyson vacuums and more.

Another Black Friday bargain at Best Buy is video games, specifically just released games and console bundles.
Continue reading Black Friday: Best Buy offering half off some appliances

Black Friday: Best Buy offering half off some appliances originally appeared on WalletPop Blog on Fri, 13 Nov 2009 13:45:00 EST.
After it became clear that both Mint and Quicken Online would remain free, the only real question left was, "Which service would remain standing after the purchase was complete?"

Last week TechCrunch broke the news that Aaron Patzer, the new vice president and general manager of Intuit's Personal Finance Group at Intuit, would be closing down Quicken Online within six to nine months and migrating users to Mint.com.
Continue reading Intuit exec explains what Quicken users can expect from Mint.com

Intuit exec explains what Quicken users can expect from Mint.com originally appeared on WalletPop Blog on Thu, 12 Nov 2009 16:00:00 EST. This year there are several great door-buster deals, including $3 kitchen appliances and some of the closest prices to our Black Friday predictions we've seen so far.

Even though HDTV's, toys and computers are some of the biggest Black Friday draws, Target is making a bid to take over the kitchens of frugal shoppers with a selection of $3 kitchen appliances from Chefmate. The rumored $3 appliances include a 12-cup coffeemaker, sandwich maker, toaster and slow cooker.
Continue reading Black Friday: Target offers $3 appliances and gift card bonuses

Black Friday: Target offers $3 appliances and gift card bonuses originally appeared on WalletPop Blog on Thu, 12 Nov 2009 09:00:00 EST.
The Kohl's Black Friday ad weighs in at more than 60 pages of deals and Staples' doorbuster deals include some good computer deals and plenty of digital cameras.

Kohl's kicks off its Black Friday with a collection of bargains on toys and clothing to lure in shoppers when the stores open at 4 a.m. on Black Friday. Many of these deals will also be available online, possibly starting on Thanksgiving.
Continue reading Black Friday: Kohl's and Staples offer sales on clothing, toys and tech

Black Friday: Kohl's and Staples offer sales on clothing, toys and tech originally appeared on WalletPop Blog on Wed, 11 Nov 2009 12:30:00 EST. In addition to offering free WiFi access in the airports, Google is also working with GoGo, an in-flight WiFi provider, to provide free Internet access on Virgin America flights for the holidays.
After Walmart fired the first shot with a pre-Black Friday Laptop deal last weekend, Best Buy is responding with its own Black Friday computer deal -- priced at just $250.

Starting on Wednesday November 11, Best Buy will be selling an Acer laptop for $249.99. This low priced laptop is, according to an email from BlackFriday.info, "their lowest-advertised-price laptop ever."

Best Buy just confirmed that the $250 laptop will be the Acer Extensa EX5230E-2177 which comes with a 2.2 GHz Intel Celeron 900 processor, 2 GB of RAM and a 160 GB hard drive complete with Windows 7 (Full specs).
A laptop like this won't see you through many gaming sessions but will work fine for browsing the web, managing your digital pictures, watching YouTube and doing schoolwork.

As an added bonus, Best Buy is also including six months of antivirus protection with every computer sold through the end of December and will throw in a year's subscription to Napster with any Dell laptop purchased at Best Buy.

To take advantage of the deal, visit your local Best Buy on Wednesday November 11, or go to BestBuy.com.
Pre-Black Friday: Best Buy selling a $250 Laptop November 11 originally appeared on WalletPop Blog on Tue, 10 Nov 2009 19:30:00 EST. As part of the agreement, Tagged has to pay $250,000, which includes the cost of the state's investigation.
After Tagged had access to a user's address book, the social networking site sent messages that appeared to come directly from the user, offering to share photos with the recipient. When a recipient tried to view the pictures, which often didn't even exist, they were prompted to sign up, giving Tagged access to their address book and continuing the deceptive practice.
Continue reading Tagged ... you're out! Sure, the Droid didn't come with nearly as much fanfare as Verizon would have hoped, and no professional line-sitters showed up like they did for the iPhone, but the release of the Droid will have a big affect on the cell phone business.
Continue reading Firsthand report: WalletPop blogger and his new Verizon Droid

Firsthand report: WalletPop blogger and his new Verizon Droid originally appeared on WalletPop Blog on Fri, 06 Nov 2009 14:15:00 EST. This year the trend continues, and we are seeing bigger bonus offers coming in from retailers beyond the restaurant industry.

Retailers offer these deals to spur the sales of gift cards for others, but many bargain lovers like myself pick up these deals just to save money on our own purchases.

DealNews has a roundup of several great gift card bonus offers that could be great for gifting or saving money on your own purchases, including;

20% off gift card purchases at Eastbay with coupon code.

Free $5 gift card with $25 gift card purchase at Boston Market.

10% bonus on Marriott gift cards.

$20 gift card on $100 gift card purchase at Outback and other OSI restaurants

And many more deals including Ruth Chris, L.L. Bean and others.

It's nothing for a $30 birthday celebration bouquet to turn into a $50 purchase by the time you hit the pay now button. Once you add in delivery fees, which can change on a daily basis, and other miscellaneous extras, you can easily spend another $20. But now a new company, Flora Flora, is shaking up the world of online flower sales with a pricing model that has no additional fees.

The company, which is part of the ShoeBuy business, launches today with "what you see is what you get" pricing on all of their flowers. The business model of avoiding extra fees and showing the true cost from the beginning may seem obvious to me and you, but in the flower market it's a rather "fresh" one.

Continue reading Flora Flora takes hidden fees out of online flowers

Flora Flora takes hidden fees out of online flowers originally appeared on WalletPop Blog on Thu, 05 Nov 2009 14:00:00 EST. On Free Shipping Day last year, more than 100,000 shoppers picked up Christmas gifts with free, guaranteed-in-time-for-Christmas shipping at more than 250 retailers including big names like Kohl's, JCPenney, Victoria's Secret and many more.

Thanks to its first year success, Free Shipping Day is back for a second year and as founder Luke Knowles told WalletPop in a phone interview, "Free Shipping Day wants to join the ranks of Black Friday and Cyber Monday as an annual tradition."

Continue reading Free Shipping Day is back with more retailers!

Free Shipping Day is back with more retailers! originally appeared on WalletPop Blog on Thu, 05 Nov 2009 12:00:00 EST.
