Carbon monoxide leak prompts recall of high-end ranges
Filed under: Recalls, Consumer Ally
Bad news for people hoping to use their pricey, recently purchased ranges to roast turkeys or bake pies for Thanksgiving. High-end ranges sold under the Kenmore and Electrolux brands are being recalled after they were found to leak carbon monoxide gas when the oven is in use.The Electrolux Icon and Kenmore Pro 30-inch gas ranges made in Canada by Electrolux Home Products have a part that allows delivery of more fuel than the oven burners can handle, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said. The result of the incomplete combustion is the release of carbon monoxide.
Electrolux told the CPSC that about 900 of the ranges have the problem. They were sold from August 2008 through October 2009 for $2,500 to $3,500.
The company said it had received four reports of carbon monoxide leaks.
According to the CPSC, those who have the ranges can continue to use the stove and broiler, but should not use the oven.
The free-standing ranges being recalled are limited to the Electrolux Icon model E30GF74HPS and
Kenmore Pro 30" Gas Range models 790.76913800 and 790.76913801 with following number range: NF83000000 – NF93633000.
Consumers can find the Electrolux model and serial number in the back of the range. The Kenmore model and serial number can be found near the range's base beneath the bottom right part of the oven door -- as well as in the rear.
For more information, those with the Electrolux range should call Electrolux weekdays between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. ET at (888) 360-8557 and Saturdays between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., or visit the Web site set up for the recall. Those who have the Kenmore model should cal Sears at (800) 733-2299 between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. ET Monday through Saturday.

Uh-oh, another foreign boo-boo. Why can't we make this stuff in the U.S. instead of being just a fix-it shop? Is it our high labor costs?

You got it right, The Government is too wimpy to tell the Unions to either live like the rest of the people or move to China.

High end doesn't always means it the best. I had read where it's a poor investment to buy those very expensive appliances. I believe the most for the money are the mid price range appliances. You get some bells and whistles, but the price isn't over the top. We recently replaced all of our major appliances and are happy with our mid priced choices.

How nice ! ! ! ! From 1970 thru 1995 I bought all of my major appliances and tools from Sears....BUT, I have gotten so discusted with Sears and K-mart in the last 5 years, that I will not even walk into one of their stores anymore.....Their biggest joke is a new discount outlet facility in Marietta, GA where their discounted prices are higher than I could buy ( and did buy ) the exact same product at ApplianceSmart for significantly less. Sears used to be "the king and the go to store". Boy have they become the high priced crap store......Guess where I will go when my Sears appliances need to be replaced. ........SURELY NOT SEARS.

Tell me Glenn, since you no longer shop at Sears for say, tools, where do you buy American made tools – Home Depot or Lowes? Good luck finding many American made tools at a national chain other than Sears. The American made Craftsman products remain a high-quality product with an ironclad guarantee. I made the mistake of buying a Chinese-made socket adaptor from Home Depot because it was more convenient the day I needed the tool. It broke after one use! I didn’t even bother bringing it back for a replacement because it’s junk. Instead I bought an American made Craftsman socket adaptor, to go along with the rest of my Craftsman tools, and it has been working flawlessly for 5 years. Don’t bash Sears because they still have many great products and excellent customer service to back it up. I buy what I can from Sears because they will maintain your purchase and warrantee whether or not you can find your receipt. I also really appreciate the fact they can actually service the goods they sell. Try getting the other big box stores to do that.

Dang Canadian union, anti-food cooking workers trying to live like wall street fat-cats. totally all their faults. Not the American engineer who designed it.

Yeah right it has to be the unions. Please tell the rest of us Janice, where in the United States can you live on the salary that the Chinese laborer gets?
It is the same crap. The rich bastard CEO and his minions still are making their 10 billion dollars a year and screwing the consumer. Do you think that they have quality control in their factories in China? It is not just cheap labor. China and these other nations don't have the environmental regulations that the US has so these rich bastards can throw as much poison into the air as they wish. Notice how China had restricted driving and other things before the Olympics so you could actually see the stadium?
Fact is you couldn't live in the US on the salary that these corporations pay the Chinese labor. Want to try another excuse??

Well if you could actually read all the posts what they mean is if you union workers had to live on the same pay the rest of us do day in and day out then things would be more affordable.

I know! Sit around and whine about not earning a fair wage! That has to be the answer! God forbid you weaklings stand up for yourselves. Don't demand a cost of living raise and get it in writing so the boss can't change his mind. Don't demand affordable health benefits. Leave that to the government. They have to know what it is best for you and your family. Don't even think about a pension, your banking on the lottery to take care of that, right? Here's the best idea yet, ready? Be a scab and work for a temp agency instead of passing the required tests and/or ability assessment to ensure your workplace is chuck full of reliable, competent co-workers. YEAH! Cuz they might make more money than you.
Stupid people like you david and janice, YOU ARE THE PROBLEM WITH AMERICA! Its so much easier to sit back and bitch, than it is to stand up and fight for your rights. Norma Rae would be ashamed of you. So am I.

Want to get rich? All you need to do is get elected to congress. 80% of the people elected are not millionaires. After 4 or 6 year terms they become millionaires and their salaries would require them to be in congress at least twice that long to earn that much. I don't suppose illegal kickbacks, special interest money and bribes have anything to do with it. Things can't be manufactured in the U.S. and sold here when they won't pass tariffs on goods produced outside this country by cheap labor. Our tariffs should equal the amount that each country charges us. Middle Eastern countries cost of wheat corn and soybeans should be tied into the amount we are charged for oil. Reducing energy costs that way could make our products more affordable. We also could use the barter system barrel of oil for a bushel of wheat. If they don't agree let them eat the oil, it may taste good poured over sand.
