Want Coke? Not at Costco
Costco wholesale clubs won't be selling Coca-Cola products any longer. The chain is reportedly dropping the brand due to a dispute over pricing. Neither Coke nor Costco offered more explanation, but Bloomberg news quotes a statement from Costco's Web site that states, "At this time, Coca-Cola has not provided Costco with competitive pricing so that we may pass along the value our members deserve."
That statement is no longer accessible under the Coke product listing, which simply says the item is no longer available. But a Costco representative confirmed Monday to news outlets that the chain won't be carrying products from Coca-Cola.
Brands included: Coke Classic, Cherry Coke, Black Cherry Vanilla Coke, Diet Coke, Coke Zero, Sprite and Squirt, Dasani Water and Vitamin Water along with sports and energy drinks.

Hurray for Coke!
Its about time that someone stood up to the big box stores. They squeeze the manufacturers so much that the profit margins are too slim to make doing business with them even somewhat possible.
Walmart, Lowe's, Home Depot, Sam's and all the rest of the big box stores "charge" these manufacturers for shelf space while making the manufacturer sell their goods at razor thin profit margins. This "charge" for shelf space comes back to the big box stores in the form of "end of the year rebates" which is great for the big box stores because you don't have to pay taxes on "rebates"!!!
These big box stores have so much buying power that they have literally forced manufacturers to take their manufacturing overseas to remain profitable. It is either take your manufacturing to China or go out of business.
First it was just shirts, pants, socks and TV's that had to take their manufacturing to China to be able to compete with Walmart's practices, next its going to be Coke, General Mills, fruits & veggies all coming from overseas because we'd rather drive an extra 5 miles, spend an extra 20 minutes in line all to save 15 cents on a 2 liter Coke!
Pathetic!

I'm thinking that your comments are off-base. I know something about this, because the man who owns the Coca-cola distributorship rights in THIRTY EIGHT COUNTRIES is a friend of our family and he has told us, at length, about the profit structures for his business. Short of selling the product at cost (which is considerably less than a dollar), there is no way you're going to hurt his business. The distributors here in the US are simply lying. That's all there is to it. They are desperately trying to beef up their share-price at the expense of the consumer - and at the same time, protect their CEO's and COO'S bonuses. That's the same crap that's going on in the big banks and I don't have any sympathy for it.

As owner of a vending company, I also have to forgo Coke products from time to time because of price. While I can get bargains from the rest, Coke is the highest priced wholesale priced drink on the market so from a business standpoint I understand fully why Costco did what they did. Go into about any store and check 12 packs of drinks and Coke will be the highest on the shelf.
As far as it ruling Atlanta. That is where their corporate offices and a huge manufacturing plant is located so that in itself is not a fair comparison.

Good for costco...since a 12 pack hit $4 this week,on sale, I'm off the coke wagon. That's a hell of a price increase from a month ago of $3.33 non sale price. Pepsi is no better, cost wise. I'll wait for a price war.

It costs Coke about 15 cents to put that brown liquid in a bottle. The suckers who buy the stuff are getting hosed regardless who is selling it. Drink water.

Actually, Cokes point on pricing is "it doesn't matter what we charge, people will pay it."
Keep this in mind and check out the price increases over the last 5 years folks.

Costco has competitive pricing, Coke has to give all like distributors like pricing, by law. What Costco is really trying to do is get a cost reduction, without passing on the savings, thus giving themselves a raise! This is how Big Boxes operate, it ruins margins for everyone, including the manufacturers, and the only one who wins is the Big Box. They don't care if a vendor goes out of business, there will be someone else to fill in the gap. I've sold to Big Boxes for over 15 years, if our consumer product businesses weren't so addicted to volume sales, this would never happen. Good for Cokes of the world. They can make enough profit to afford the lose of Costco volume, all the while helping people to stay in business, save jobs in America, pay fair, living wages and support our economy. For every 1% you discount a product, you'll need a 3% increase in volume to earn the gross margin! Costco losses again, do you think they can triple their "coke" sales by selling a 12 pack for 1% under the local market value for the same product? Not gonna happen! Let's support fair competition and buy Coke from Costco's competitor at $.03 higher per can, and shop elsewhere, speak up consumers! Keep jobs in America!

Boycott all these greedy stores and boycott all their processed food which is loaded with chemicals to produce a long shelf life. Many of these processed food items are cancerous. That is the main reason why people getting sick and dying of cancer and heart disease. All plastic containers leaching chemicals into the contends and should be banned from the market. Drink filtered water and green tea and eat only fresh sockeye salmon, sardines in tomato sauce, shrimp and trout; fresh organic or frozen green leafy vegetables and fresh or frozen fruit. People are too lazy to read and study all food labels because they don't understand the words. If the consumer gets serious, stores will put out only healthy food items. Consumers also have the power to control the prices. Contends of cans and packages getting smaller but not the prices.

Having a relationship with COKE - let me tell you they are an AMAZING success story.
There is very little COST asociated with their production compared to what you pay.
On the fountain side they RAISE the prices a great deal each and every year without exception - they than REBATE back to their best clients to insure market share.
Their research and global reach is second to none - they know in the end YOU WILL PAY FOR IT - it is a very successful company with BIG BUCKS!
