Ouch y'all: Shattering Paula Deen cookware recalled
Filed under: Recalls, Consumer Ally
If you've got Paula Deen cast iron cookware purchased from QVC y'all got a problem. The cookware's being recalled because they can bust apart or shatter -- something particularly dangerous when they're smokin' hot.
The current queen of Southern-style cooking hasn't had the best month publicity wise. This recall comes on the heels of Barbara Walters accusing Deen of being a contributor to the nation's childhood obesity problem while promoting her cookbook for kids that features some of her tasty, but fat-laden recipes.
First she's making kids fat and now she's trying to hurt their parents. That's a couple of tough blows for the lovable TV personality with a deep and abiding commitment to butter.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Paula Deen Hammered Cast Iron Cookware, distributed by China-based Meyer Trading Inc., can crack or shatter when heated. The cookware poses a risk of burns and cuts, the CPSC said. Consumers are urged to stop using the cookware and return it to QVC for a full refund.
QVC and Meyer told the government they had received reports of 79 incidents. Typically, only a fraction of consumers report problems with products to the government or companies.
Included in the recall are: Paula Deen 11-inch cast iron grill pans and griddles (QVC items K14984, K11970 and K135024). Paula Deen's logo is engraved on the bottom of the black cookware.
The cookware was sold between October 2007 and July 2009 for $35 to $55. QVC said it has contacted known purchasers of the cookware.
For more information, call QVC at (800) 367-9444 between anytime between 7 a.m. and 1 a.m. seven days a week.

The real danger is people like you who don't know how to eat in moderation or when to say, "that's enough".

I have always been very afraid of aging, you know, becoming old and useless and unattractive. When I turned 50, I decided to do something about it. I've spent fortunes on face creams and anti-aging serums… but using GenFX is the first time I've tried turning back the clock from the inside out. It's also the last time I'll spend a fortune on face creams! Now everyone says I look 35! http://www.antiaginggenfx.com/

You tell her Herb! THAT is the precise problem!
I recently moved out of a situation where the person was a literal food addict (Yes, there really ARE people like that!). You couldn't have the simplest conversation without food, food, FOOD being at the top of the list of subjects. How much, when, where, on and on till you want to scream! AND, eating all of the time...AND food that is SUPPOSED to be good for you! BUT, when you can't go half an hour without eating something, anything, no matter what it is, you are going to pack on the pounds!
And NO ONE is forcing you to eat Ms. Deen's cooking, so shut up!

I use to admire Bawbwa, but now she is shameful. The way she talks about this woman and continues to drag it on, what a witch. You are just plain disgusting woman and any class you may have had at one time has checked out. You need to retire and tuck yourself away before the station does that for you because you are losing it!!!

Every man that has used a tool made in China knows that their metals are not safe. Paula's dishes a junky made in China also. Being sold in Macys doesn't make them better, just makes Macys look bad.

Right on, Bob. I started to buy a piece of Paula Deen cookware in Wal Mart, and turned it over to see if it was made in the USA. NO. So, I put it back. When I got home i looked online to find cast iron cookware, and there are some manufacturers left in the US (a miracle). I couldn't find an address to write Ms. Deen directly to let her know what I think about that, so I wrote to the magazine instead. I told them since she wants to enrich the Chinese workers, let them buy her cookware!
Plus, remember all the poison pet food and lead laden childrens toys from China. No CONSCIENTIOUS person would take their product to china to get it made. I won't buy Paula's cookware Y'all.

Saw Barbara in a close up pic recently. She was so wrinkled and drawn over. Maybe some of Paula's good food would help her.
Moderation is the way to go whether it is more or less. The choice is yours. It isn't always the food someone eats, it is the exercise you get after.
Some folks are fluffy and some have a caustic mouth.

I agree that moderation is the key. Paula's books for kids are fun and there is nothing wrong with the recipes. I believe in healthy eating for children, however, this world is too obsessed with skinny. So let's not give our kids more identity problems. Besides, who among all the respondents here does not have a wonderful memory of Mom, grandma or favorite aunt making something yummy when you were a child. Cookies, cake, etc. And did it make everyone of you fat?
As to the cookware, I am disappointed that the items are made in China and not in the United States. I for one would not buy them just for that reason. My family has been a a small crusade lately to purchase only American made products and to reject items made in foreign countries. This includes food as well as other products. We need to get our workers back to work and quit outsourcing to other countries for cheaper labor.

Barbara Walters has wrinkles? How dare she! You do realize that she's 80 right?
And the comment about Deen's childrens cookbook has nothing to do with the self control of adults. Study after study has shown that children that grow up eating crappy food have higher rates of obesity and illness, perform less well in school and are actually more violent. These eating habits are very happy to break as an adult. We should be looking towards parents for most of this responsibility but Deen probably shouldn't be selling things like her doughnut burger to kids.

I think Paula should make healthy foods. Not a fan at all. Even when I am channel surfing and her face comes on, she is always making something with butter, and then stuffing her face saying how good it is. Think these shows sholuld be monitored and have exactly the amount of calories in the dish and also fat content. It is a major issue I think. I am a Grandmother and I am very concerned about children's eating habits along with my own. Hate food with a high fat content. It's like a pipe in your hose. The more junk you put in it to plug it up it's going to burst. In food terms, it's going to be a heart attack. Think twice about watching her and making her very high fat content of food.. Just sayin

Which part of NO! were you unsuccessful in being able to teach the parent of your grandchild? Also, I never got the patronizing and coddling mentality that makes a person want to control the behavior of the all the other "poor, stupid people" that just aren't smart enough to control themselves "like you can." Your "ought to be a law" mentality is the root cause of another even more horrible malady, even more horrible than high fat foods. It's known as liberalism!!!!
