Toys R Us accepting video game trades

This week Toys R Us announced that all of its locations will start purchasing used video games for more than 25 current and retro systems.

Shoppers can visit the service desk at any Toys R Us store to find out what how much they can get for their used games. Credit will be issued in the form of a Toys R Us gift card that can be used to make purchases at Toys R Us, Babies R Us and online at ToysRUs.com.

While Toys R Us is just the latest retailer to enter the used video game buying market, it does seem to be buying the biggest selection of video games. Not only can you trade in titles from the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii but if you come across a box of Atari 2600 games in the attic they'll buy them too! You can even trade in your copy of BurgerTime for the decades old Intellevision and your Mario Bros. cartridge from the original NES.

While Toys R Us is buying your used games don't go looking for a used copy of Madden 2010 for purchase in the video game aisle since Toys R Us won't be selling the games in store but rather selling them to a third party.

Before you trade in games at any store you'd be well served to look out for specials on trades that can add up to 25% to your trade-in value. For example, GameStop's trade-in offers page currently lists a 25% bonus on games traded in toward Modern Warfare 2, Batman Arkham Asylum, Halo ODST.

This is a convenient way to trade in old games and since you can get anything from more games and toys to diapers and baby clothes it could offer a better deal to people who need something other than a copy of Halo ODST. Happy gaming!
