To find out what's hot this year, Walletpop again sequestered Dan de Grandpre, CEO and chief deal guy of DealNews.com, to ask our burning bargain questions and find out what predictions he has for Black Friday 2009.
I'll warn you there are some hard-to-believe deals in this roundup, but last year Dan and the DealNews.com team scored 82% accuracy on their Black Friday 2008 predictions, so they know what they're talking about.
Before we get to the specific deals, we wanted to let you know more about how Dan sees Black Friday 2009 playing out and what to expect on November 27.
WalletPop reporter Laura Heller recently wrote a post about the affect of declining inventory and imports, specifically that it could mean fewer deep discounts this holiday season. Will this lack of imports have an effect on Black Friday?
According to de Grandpre, this news shouldn't affect Black Friday since it's more about the whole season. He explained, "Black Friday is about ridiculous deals to get people in the door. Retailers have spent the whole year lining up deals from manufacturers, some made specifically for Black Friday, so you'll still see doorbusters." But that doesn't mean this information isn't spot on. Dan warned that declining inventory and imports will affect the apparel deals this year. Specifically he warned that, "You won't see Macy's stocked up like you did last year two days before Christmas; expect less discounting and fewer sales."
Q: Last year you predicted the increase of small stores and websites entering the Black Friday ruckus. Do you see any additional segments jumping on board this year? Service industries? Hotels?
A: "You will see travel deals this Black Friday. It will get a lot of play this season as more industries glom onto the magic of Black Friday. Specifically look for Black Friday Promotions on hotels, airlines and travel deals such as vacation packages such as Southwest Vacations."
Q: If you had to choose one category or one item to stand in line for (no internet shopping), which of your predictions would be good enough to risk frostbite for?
A: To stand outside, it's gotta be the most expensive item with the biggest difference between prices. It's gotta be a 52" or larger TV with hundreds of dollars in savings.

ok whats the point of black friday if we know what we're getting? JCpennys will give out snow globes, walmart will have a bunch of crap for 5 dollars and we'll all be tired as hell because of it. Look at the prices they put up and ask your self if its worth waiting threw that garbage to save a few dollars. Then ask your self if " would it be worth looking for deals now"?. Most of the cheap stuff they put out for the holidays is made just for the holiday. Products engineered to be cheap. Your not getting a deal if you loosing features(walmart exclusives are good for that).

Well at this time I'm trying to find the lowest priced Maytag Washer & Dryer set. My Christmas Club stands at $1,200.00 at this time. So I need to find the lowest priced Maytag Washers & Dryers all over the place. Online, Sears, Home Depot, Lowe's, Sam's, Ect..., Ect..., Ect..., Ect... onward. Some big businesses that aren't even in my area in Louisiana. Twelve hundred dollars I should get the Maytag set for under $900. So it still leaves me $300 to throw away for fun. I'm thinking of just throwing some of the $300 on my house insurance. That would clear some monthly bills for the future of a few months.

I can't believe that retailers even worry about Black Friday anymore.
It is a thing of the past, when Thanksgiving actually kicked off the Christmas season.
Now, there are Christmas things in the stores already, right next to the Halloween stuff.
Give us a break and a breather from constantly cramming holidays down our throats.
Maybe we'll actually feel like doing Christmas if we aren't hearing about it in October...........

You know....some of aren't as scrooged as you. For some of us it's about more than just spending money or getting the best deals. It's about tradition. It's about the joy and excitement of the holiday season. And it's about family and having another reason to spend time with them.
Of course we all have more important things to worry about. But if we can spend a little bit on Christmas and bring smiles to the faces of our young children whilst having a good time ourselves....why put a damper on that?
You people are so darn pessimistic. Let's let the dark and dreary mood of this recession drag us into a depression where we sit at home and flame people who are still out spending money. Sorry. I'd rather not.

Well, it is actually all about the experience. We get about 10 friends and family members and divide into groups and we all go to different stores with *The List*. We've always gotten everything we wanted. Afterwards, we all meet for breakfast. It's a lot of fun and something we look forward to every year. Last year we went to Branson, MO and the outlet stores opened at Midnight on Thanksgiving night which was a nice experience...no waiting or being cold.

You are so right. I have stood in line with my family, seeing the same people from past years, drinking coffee, dressed up like bandits, to stay warm, and having the best time. Making very good memories with my entire family. Then going home with all that we scored and can't wait to wrap it all. It kicked started all of us to be super excited for Christmas from that day forward. We even made Thanksgiving night like a slumber party to get ready for this sales jumping event, so we could all be awake and ready to go at 4 am. The sales arent as good as they once were, If you played your cards right, you could have many free things under the tree to pass out as presents. Now they try to scam you into thinking you have saved something. Still a very fun fun way to jump off the holiday season. I can't wait to hear on the news people camped out around the corner of a store the entire night.. It is definitely the JOURNEY!

They call it Black Friday because it gets the stores numbers out of the "red" and into the "black"

My husband HATES the commercialism of Christmas and so when our last child graduated from high school 5 years ago we quit celebrating it. We just go away on vacation somewhere nice and sunny and forget about it.

We aren't doing Christmas this year. Middle class poor, our mortgage & property taxes are more important. Keeping the roof over our head is our Christmas. You all have fun.
