Unemployed woman sues college for tuition
Twenty-seven-year old Trina Thompson graduated from Monroe College in the Bronx and now she's having trouble finding a job with her information technology degree. Her solution? Sue the school, of course!
That's right. She graduated in April and apparently the market's been so tough she hasn't been able to find a good job in three months. She wants the $70,000 she spent on tuition back.
She actually might have a case: If she's dumb enough to think that a college degree entitles her to a job, then she clearly didn't get much out of college -- unless she was in a vegetative state prior to enrollment, in which case you might say it's all relative.
The school told the Associated Press that the suit is wholly without merit which, of course, it is.
The takeaway for students and recent grads is this: Recognize that your degree does not guarantee you a job at Starbucks, let alone a full-time career in the field of your choice and in this economy, a rising number of graduates are finding that out the hard way.

Hey- the the silly young lady bringing this silly lawsuit: rotsoruck, kid. It's not the school, it's the economy. I graduated from college under the regime of that ultimate pinhead Jimmy Carter! Our economy was NEARLY as bad as it is NOW! I have had a tough time at first, but have found ways to survive... No one OWES you a job. However, for your own future health and prosperity, try to remember to vote for people that promise you the LEAST government possible. Here's a lesson from Thos. Jefferson- (paraphrasing) "Any government big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take everything you have."

Most people do go to college for a better future. I recommend trade schools or a degree that has a specific job at the end of your education to the kids I talk with that somehow are programmed to answer college when asked what they will do after HS.

Well Miss Trina Thompson, you have just put yourself in an even worse position by this fucking nonsense being on every single news site in the internet. You have essentially blacklisted yourself, at least for months. Nobody owes you a job and you are going to find that out the hard way, oh wait you already did! Do you think in this day and age where managers can find everything they need to know by googling your name, that you are going to succeed in life by being a little leech on society?
Youre an asshole.

Ridiculous. The schools are selling the opportunity for an education, not a job.

She should sue, and I hope she wins. The "Military-Industrial Complex" doesn't have much on the "Publishing-Testing-Educational" complex. We've been sold this lie for years that all one needs to do is spend thousands of dollars to have a degree to be successful. Why do high school students need three years of math, algebra or beyond, to get a diploma that qualifies them for minimum wage? A friend of mine recently paid $500 for ONE textbook. Again, it's the greed and elitism of the bourgeois middle-class educationists who don't produce anything.

Education might eliminate ignorance, but it doesn't eliminate stupidity.
I hope this person is prepared to pack up and move elsewhere to FIND a job, because she's just established her local reputation as a trifling, litigious troublemaker-that will contribute nothing to her job prospects.

She should instead be suing for the lack of an education.

I think all colleges should have a "Money-back" guarantee. This poor little cupcake was duped by the big bad college. I wonder where she came up with the money to go there. I bet she didn't earn it. Maybe she took out loans. Either way - this article adds credence to the phrase, "Sucks to be you."

my opinion is simple, you cannot count on in the school to find the job for you, School is thier for you to teach and learn and building your own Future. I did it for myself I graduated in school and I find the job for myself overseas and become successful.
Now I'm leaving here in United States .
Lesson in LIFE , IF THERE'S A WILL, THERE"S A WAY
