Corruption has no bounds...from scamming the system for Welfare and medicare, to Wall St...now you hear that firefighters (even though they are in France) are putting people in danger...well the firefighters here work overtime as much as they can in their final year because they base their pension on their last year of work.....no wonder eveyone is broke.

PISS ON THEM BOTH. As a retired firefighter I cant stand an arsonist firefighter and I hope they get the worste sentence they can get. This happens more than I would like to think more so in volunteers for whatever thrill they are wanting or trying to get "hero" status. I have NO sympathy for them. With both of them being French at least they started woods fires. As French I guess they were too scared to set a house and have to fight it. They could have gotten hurt. Like I said PISS ON BOTH OF THEM and anyone else who has done the same thing anywhere or thinking about it.

Yet another brainless comment from another brainless AOL reporter. Cops are at least as subject to corruption - and are exposed to more temptation to steal and break the law for money - as firefighters or anyone in any other occupation. And by doing so, they certainly do create more work for their more honest brethren on the force.

That's a shame a few bad firefighters could even think of doing something so greedy and corrupt. The majority of firefighters are honest, caring people devoted to mankind. It is much more than just a job, rather a life commitment. Re the overtime and pension in their last year ... typically no one receives overtime unless there is a need to fill a void or empty slot in the schedule due to sick, injury or vacation time off by staff. That way, the ambulance or fire apparatus in your area are fully staffed for your protection. A long time firefighter/officer (ready to retire) has command knowledge and experience to run a fire scene successfully.

Actually, it is like some police officers commit crimes that the police end up having to investigate - happens all the time. There's also a much more effective way of generating work that that. It makes the firefighters look like amatuers.

In fact I believe that, within the Department of Law Enforcement, there is a little thing called a quota. The required amount of tickets that must be written for the month. I currently work as a data entry, working closely with the local highway patrol. I see the things posted on the walls all the time.

So let's pick a situation out of a hat and see how it might play out: You're only going 5 over the limit. A nearby police officer needs 5 more tickets before he calls it a week. You drive past the officer. He pulls you over.

He now has 4 more tickets to write.

There's another car that just made a slight rolling stop. Brilliant. He pulls them over. He now has 3 more tickets to write.

See the logic here? Everyone is human, man.

So yes, starting a fire in the middle of a forest is pretty screwed up, but I think the habitual rape of America by the police is a little closer to home.

Interesting there aren't any stories on Aol about that, isn't it?

I used to date a fireman and this makes me sick when all my man and the members of his house ever did was help people. As far as I'm concerned they should get a year for every dollar made or had the potential to make by setting a fire!!!!

To the people of America that don't think starting fires purposely, think again. A fireman/person does not get paid unless they are fighting fires. These huge out of control fires that scorch millions of acres of land, take away peoples homes and lives, come on now. Why do you think that the majority of fires happen west of the Mississippi?

To Call these people Firefighters is an insult to all proffesional firefighters. They are volunteers. Most likely work in a dely.

This is sad to hear of yet more bad apples spoiling the bunch, between this the firefighter who killed his dogs so he wouldn't have to board them while on vacation. But when firefighters go above the call of duty, ironically there is no press, such as with Camden FD Engine 6 who honorarily inducted a sick boy into the FD weeks before his death and then paid for the funeral expenses.

Firefighters are some of the most selfless people, albeit 'crazy' (they run in when others run out). Do not let this story reflect badly on firefighters as a whole, when every day they face furloughs, money shortages, and other crap to keep you and your community safe.
