Frigidaire is recalling 35,000 washing machines manufactured under a variety of brand names because they could catch on fire due to a problem with the drain pump, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said.
The American-made machines were sold between February and May for between $300 and $1,100 under the following brands: Crosley, Frigidaire, Kelvinator, Kenmore, Wascomat , and White-Westinghouse. They were sold nationwide at Sears and other retailers.
Those who have the machines should unplug them and schedule a repair appointment. If the machine was purchased at a Sears store, consumers should contact Sears. Otherwise, contact Frigidaire.
For more information, call Frigidaire at (800) 734-4519 between 8 a.m. and 11 p.m. Eastern Time Monday through Saturday, or go to www.laundrypumprecall.com.
For those who need to contact Sears, call them toll free at (888) 549-5870 between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. ET Monday through Saturday, or go to www.sears.com.
A complete list of the model numbers of the affected machines is available here.

No, these washers are made in the good, old US of A, not China. Augusta, GA, to be exact. I know. I had one and the mathcing dryer.
They are also infamous for having the stainless steel drum separate from the aluminum "spider" that holds the drum and then attaches to the drive motor. You see, stainless steel and aluminum chemically react, causing the aluminum to pit and corrode. There are several videos on You Tube showing this.
Yes, we build crap too. And not just cars!

If you're going to make a dent in toy safety, your first stop has to be China. An estimated nine out of 10 toys sold in the U.S. comes from that nation's factories. And for a look at the latest recalls, click through our gallery.
MelB guess you did not read the above line at all. SOrry but most of the garbage on our store shelves IS made in China by Chinese controlled by Chinese managers who are looking to kiss up to the rich bastard CEO that is in charge of the corporation that has this junk made in China so they can take advantage of the Chinese, the cheap labor and lousy manugacturing in China. Also so the rich bastard CEO can make himself richer. Guess they think they are better than anyone else and when they die they have a red carpet to heaven. NOT!!

Speaking of China isn't the outcome of WWIII supposed to be the East destroyed by the West in the Battle Of Armagedon as prophetized by Nostra Damos? If this is the case the problems will automatically solve themself.

It is you who did not read "the above line at all," as you accuse MelB of doing. The first sentence of the second paragraph in the article says that the machines were American made. While the Chinese can rightfully be blamed for dumping a lot of garbage into the U.S. market (supported by our government and Walmart shoppers), this is one thing for which they cannot be blamed--at least according to the article.
