Firestone nearly doubles previous tire recall
Filed under: Recalls, Consumer Ally
Bridgestone is recalling 127,000 Firestone tires sold in 2007 and 2008 -- nearly doubling an earlier recall of tires from the same line, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced. All the tires involved are FR380 Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, LLC, formerly known as Bridgestone Firestone North America, said the tread base of the tires was not made correctly and could cause tread separation and loss of control of a vehicle after extended use. No incidents have been reported, the company told NHTSA.
In the fall, the company recalled more than 162,000 tires made in 2006 and 2007 for the same reason. All the tires being recalled were made at the company's plant in Costa Rica. Bridgestone told NHTSA the problem was remedied at the plant in July 2008.
For anyone with the affected tires, Firestone is supposed to notify owners that they will be replaced for free -- including mounting and balancing. The replacement tires can be obtained at authorized Firestone dealers or company owned stores, including Firestone Complete Auto Care and TiresPlus. Tire owners can also call Bridgestone at 800-465-1904 or visit the company web site.
Firestone also told the government it will reimburse customers who incurred costs related to the recalled tires.

you can start getting quality again when you buy Made IN AMERICA products, big business is learning the hard way that it is not cheaper to ship our jobs overseas/mexico and expect to get a quailty item in return.

Geez! Are you putting boat trailer tires on a Beemer?? The best tire I've ever used was the Firestone Radial ATX on my Explorer. The recall on them was BOGUS! I repeatedly got at least 85,000 miles on each set. The morons that experienced tire failure were never checking for proper inflation and ended up running them UNDERINFLATED till they got too hot and they blew from neglect. Take care, use the proper tires with the proper inflation and check them often.

Does anyone remember Firestone in the mid 70's? Steel belted radials that the tread became seperated?
Seems they cannot learn from their mistakes, and just keep making the same ones over and over.
I think I see another company that will be looking for Fed. bailout $.
Junk company, no matter who owns them!

Yes I believe thay were Firestone 500 radials. I don't trust any of those places. There is no way they can do the brake job for that price and make money. I took my F-250 into Ford for a recall. Later that day they tried to sell me brakes, trans service, oil change (I had just changed it and the filter the week before) and several other items. I asked them why did they look at these items and was told it was part of their "free" safety check.
Yet I had to put 30 lbs of air in the driver side rear tire when I got home. I guess they can't make money on air. So much for their so called "safety check"

Yes I do. Had a brand new Ford LTD in 1978 and had that very problem. After a few threats and aan unpleasant conversation they agreed to replace the tire free of charge. I have not purchased that brand and type of tire ever since. I have gone through many sets of tires in 31 years of driving, never encountered that problem again.

The tires you're speaking of were the Firestone 721 radials - they were junk and every tire they've made since then are junk too.

There were also incidents with Firestone Tires on Ford SUV'
s separating. My daughter and I were in just such an incident which caused a terrible crash. There are countless others out there just like us. We have been told that cost to add the necessary piece in each tire is $1.00 per tire. Such little cost to cause so much suffering!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Being my age (61) does have its advantages. I can look back
over the years and compare the progress some companies
have made both in their management and product improvements.
This tire companies stands at the top of my list for product
trash and lack of concern for their customer. I wouldn't buy
another Firestone product. I would rather walk or bike.
I have driven professionally for the past 40 years. I know
how to drive and what to drive. Anything with a Firestone
label on it I avoid. I have good reason. And Firestone knows
only too well what I am talking about. History repeats itself
again with their latest tire recall.
Commercially and in car racing venues, I have seen this
company fail miserably with their tire products. There are
alternatives for tires today, and I suggest everyone make
good use of them.
This is one company that should (and probably will eventually)
collapse due to competitive advances and quality products.
See you later, Firestone. the sooner the better.

Free replacement?? What they arent telling you is that they pro-rate the tire wear so it wont be free. It should be but you will have to pay something.
