Only experienced need apply: Job fair held for 'mature' workers

I'm not a big fan of job fairs, mainly because they're too general and most of the employers are looking for cheap, entry-level workers.
But a recent job fair in Sun City, Ariz., caught my eye because it allowed only job applicants 55 and older inside. And better yet, many of the employers at the job fair were looking for workers in that exact population, according to an ABC15.com story.

I'm not for age discrimination of any kind, but such a fair seems like a good idea, especially if employers are targeting "mature" workers. With more workers 65 and older joining the labor force, employers have more experienced workers to choose from.
The sad thing is that the recession and stock market collapse is forcing many people who would have retired to return to work.
Brad Morantz told ABC13 that he was laid off in December and had to set back his retirement plans.
"Now we have the financial hardships and all the other things, I'm not putting away money for retirement, because I'm -- we're -- taking money out," Morantz said.
Margie Cole, in her 60s, said she was at the job fair after retiring. "We just feel like we need, my husband and I, to supplement our pensions," Cole said.
Employers at the job fair included several adult home care agencies. It's good to see that at least in that field, life experience is a good attribution in an employee.
