$250 checks sent to seniors on Thursday
Filed under: Retire, Recession, Stimulate US
In addition to going out to Social Security and SSI recipients, stimulus money is also being sent to railroad retirees and disabled veterans.
According to government estimates, 64 million Americans will receive stimulus money this year. The total cost to the federal budget will be around $13 billion. The $250 payments are the largest going out to individual Americans, CNN points out. Only time will tell if these infusions of money will show up as economic relief. Please tell us in the comments section how you plan to spend your $250 stimulus money?

Why did it take soooo long for the government to think about people who have no way ...I REPEAT NO WAY TO SUPPLIMENT THEIR INCOME --Now they get something that is not going to change their lives, --I am such a person I would love to go to work and make my own money but I can't I have a heart condition that keeps me from exerting myself, this money is not going to help me. I have (2) children still at home with me, one is graduating this year, I could not afford his cap and gown, pictures, invitations, announcements to his graduation, THERE WILL BE NO GRADUATION PARTY CAN YOU HELP ME WITH THAT MISTER PRESIDENT--I am ashame that I as a single mother cannot give him what he earned (a nice dinner with friends and family) The way the economy is now, our children are not going to be able to afford memories. I know this is a year my son will not want to remember.......thanks for $250---it does'nt make a difference.

I'm on unemployment, so I get the extra $25 a week for awhile, that's fine. But $250 untaxes, that would be 6 weeks of food for me or more, that's alot of money. MakeMeBetter, kids don't care about restaurants, they don't like when parents strain their budget. I know, I was that kid, and we didn't get to a restaurant, and I didn't care. My grama and her family went to a restaurant once in 10 years, and my mom only got one apple in 6 years. If you have food at home, just make it festive, buy some streamers at the dollar store and a cheap outlet cake. If you are happy, your kids will be too.

This is in reply to all who said "BFD". I can't believe how ungrateful people are...the homeless would love to get the money. If you don't want it, then donate it to homeless shelters, that would make a BFD to the shelters!!!! And to those of you who are so deep in debt.....quit living beyond your damn means. Budget and get out of debt. Quit living from pay check to pay check.

My family is screwed up with unemployment, home foreclosure, loss of insurance, med problems they can't get help with and etc. I live on a pension and Soc. Sec. pay my own health Ins. etc. but I help the rest all that I can so that is where my stimulus Money, if I get it, will go
Thanks for asking. I don't feel the least guilt in taking the check, it is small potatoes compared to what the Gov't does to and for others.

You are an ill-informed idiot. It is a huge deal to someone living solely on social securty and can barely get by. I help my own mother financially who could not afford to live on social securty alone because that doesn't pay the mortgage/rent. How are they supposed to eat you fool. It's people like yourself who are idiots and spout off their mouth when they know absolutely nothing.

What's a measley $250 check going to do? It's like spitting in the ocean. Do you know what would be better? Well let me tell you, If you give every American $1,000,000 it sure would stimulate the economy. Every kid who is thinking of going to college would use some of it to go without having to get a student loan, not to mention buying a car to go to school. Every other American would buy cars, houses, boats, etc. etc. No more morgages to worry about, no more creditcard debts . No more bailing out the corporations to no avail. It is like throwing good money after bad . The corporations will always be asking for more bail out money. The government can finally be out of the red and into the black. We won't need to borrow money from foreign countries. We would be the great America we use to be.

SSI in California was recently reduced by $37 a month. The $250 will buy me a new DVD player and some badly needed clothing. Thank you Mr. President for remembering those of us who are elderly, blind and/or disabled. I will spend my stimulus with gratitude and prayers for our nation's economy.

So when these people spend this one itme payment what next? Can the anticipate another payment of this type or should they think about finding a part time job or something? The US government is run by fools now. If the elederly living on a fixed income are to get more money, then give them a good increase and let them get it monthly. Is this a pay of to the AARP for supporting Obama the way the auto bail out is just another pay off to the UAW? Wake up America. You are either being bought or have already sold out to these socialist.
