Twenty bucks may seem like a lot to pay for a burger, but...

...this is a large burger.

I mean, really large.

In an era when restaurants are serving smaller portions and grocery stores are offering products where the packaging has shrunk but the price hasn't -- well, my take is that it's almost kind of refreshing to see this. Or it would be, if the nation didn't have an obesity problem. A Michigan minor-league baseball team, the Whitecaps, has a new menu item at their concession stand: the Fifth Third Burger, which weighs 4 pounds.

Yes, 4 pounds. You thought the quarter-pounder at McDonald's was filling? Um, no. The Fifth Third Burger has 4,800 calories and if sliced with a pizza cutter, it could feed a family of four or five.

Scott Lane, the president of the baseball team, says that this isn't the stand's first odd menu item. They've served deep-fried Twinkies, turkey drumsticks and (this is the first I've heard of this) deep-fried Pepsi cola flavored batter dunked in hot oil and drizzled with Pepsi syrup. They're also looking into the possibility of serving fried Spam sandwiches.

"This is the minors," Lane told the New York Daily News. "We've got to work harder to get people in here."

This may do it. Just be sure to bring a doctor along with you. Toppings include, along with a lettuce and tomato, almost a cup of chili, five slices of American cheese, Fritos and dollops of salsa, nacho cheese and sour cream. The Fifth Third Burger is named after its stadium, which is named after its sponsor, Fifth Third Bank.

According to USA Today, a Fifth Third Burger has more than 10,000 milligrams of sodium, which is anywhere from four to six times the recommended daily amount. Oh, and there are 300 grams of fat. Make that, bring an ER doctor with you.
