Reminder: Free pancakes Feb. 24 at IHOP
Filed under: Bargains, Food, Daily Deal, Fantastic Freebies
I'm sure every pancake-loving WalletPop fan who read the notice I gave a month ago in writing about an IHOP promotion to give away pancakes on Tuesday, Feb. 24, wrote the date down and circled it in red ink on their calendar.
But just in case you forgot, here's another reminder: Go to IHOP from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Feb. 24 for a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes in celebration of National Pancake Day. The company is raising money for Children's Miracle Network and is asking patrons to donate what they would have paid for the pancakes to that charity or another of their choosing.
I was at an IHOP the other day and only remembered the upcoming free feast by noticing a flier on the table promoting it.
In light of the nearest IHOP to your house. People waited outside in the cold and rain for the free Denny's meal, with some lines stretching around the building.
Among the best restaurant deals, the Denny's freebie was worth millions in free advertising. And with drinks not being on the house, Denny's likely made $4.2 million in drink revenue, my compatriot Tom Barlow reported, and the entire promotion probably cost around $400,000, he estimated.
My guess is that a free meal, even if it's only pancakes and a donation to a charity is requested, will still pack in the crowds Tuesday at IHOPs across the land. So get up early and bring your appetite.
But beware: A free deal may not be as free as you think. With the donation for the price of the short stack of pancakes, plus a drink and a tip for the normal, full price of the meal, you may spend more money than you thought you would when you walked in for the "free" deal.

What better way to feel good about carb loading knowing IHOP is donating contributions to a good cause. Curious as to how the pancake stats pile up on National Pancake Day? I was and wrote a brief post highlighting the stats:

In a year and two, you will be praying someone would give you a handful of potatoes. There will be food shortages, clothing too. Malls will be empty as in the buildings sitting empty. Milk, chicken and meat prices will shoot to the moon. They are already killing milk cows and baby chicks to keep prices up. When those arent' replaced, shortages in 6 months - year begin. Stores will be closed, clothing not available. Have you been storing food, water, clothing in sizes needed for your family? Crime will skyrocket, you have ammo? You need to get prepared.

I went this morning. The IHOP near me was packed. There was a line when I got there around 9:40. I know. I know. I was cutting it close, but seeing there was a waiting list of people waiting to be seated, I was concerned whether IHOP would still honor the free pancakes for those who were at least in the building but not seated and ordered by 10 am. I hope they would, but I didn't stick around and ask. I got my free pancakes. The only stipulation that was posted at least at the IHOP I went to is that you ordered at least one paid beverage per order of free pancakes. Apparently, I am assuming, that people were going in and just getting the free pancakes.

I have worked for IHOP for 21 yrs as a waitress and I am totally shocked at how many teenagers and adult people came in to eat free pancakes and water and not only did they not leave tips they also did not even put any money into the donation box. This is supposed to help benefit sick children ..When i left work today there were already 334 stacks of pancakes given away for a total of $1,336.00 in free pancakes as of 1pm and i know we do not have that much money for the foundation in that box . just a bunch of greedy people eating for free when they could be helping sick children with a small donation....
