Need a home? Ask Obama
Filed under: Home, Recession, Mortgage Confidential
Henrietta Hughes, the homeless Florida woman who asked President Obama for help at a town hall meeting on the economic stimulus plan, is moving out of her pickup truck and into the home of a state representative.
Earlier this week, Chene Thompson, the wife of Florida state Rep. Nick Thompson, offered to let Hughes and her adult son live in a house she owns in LaBelle, Fla. Hughes, who is on disability for cancer, was facing a two-year waiting list at her local housing department.
During a Q&A after Obama's speech in Ft. Myers on Monday, Hughes told the president she needed "something more than the vehicle and the parks to go to. We need our own kitchen and our own bathroom. Please help."
After kissing her cheek, the president promised to do everything he could, adding that there "are a lot of people like you."
Of course, that heart-warming scene has some questioning how Hughes got access to the event, let alone a front-row seat, suggesting the exchange was staged by the administration.
Florida is widely considered the epicenter of the nation's housing crisis. Until recently, the state's growth was driven by real estate gains, which collapsed last year amid the subprime mortgage scandal.
The billion-dollar federal stimulus plan includes measures to help homeowners pay their mortgages.

Staged or not, the impact of the economy on people in all states is pretty serious. We need to get down to business and do something now, not something that will give people a tax break if they buy a new vehicle, or home. Many of the people who need the relief aren't in a position to be buying new items. What about a cash distribution of $5,000 so folks will spend again, or at least pay their bills so that banks, credit card issuers, mortgage lenders and business won't have so much bad debt.

Obama's guys told her how to get to the welfare office. "Let Daddy gubment help you." You don't get any real help. An individual showed her how private citizens can do more than the "gubment"

Yeah, everyone thinks that getting the government to pay for everything is the way to go. I guess people want to be controlled. Not me! No thank you for Universal Health Care, which is in the newly passed "stimulus" bill. Thank Nancy Pelosi for all the PORK in this. If the government would just let things ride, it will right itself. Same thing happened in '29 and they think repeating history will work. You have to dig deeper into the truth to see that it did to some degree, but not enough for the people. It was more for the government. We are now socialists! Think everything is hard now? Give it time and it will get worse. If they would just give everyone cash of more than $5,000 each, that would stimulate the economy. At the same time encourage everyone to pay off debt instead of creating more. Then there would be a better balance and everyone would be less stressed.

My curiosity was sparked when Nick Thompson's party affiliation was not indicated. Could it be because he is a Republican? Not bad for a cold hearted, racist, sexist, homophobic bigot.

She got the tickets because they were free! You know it's sad that a politician can't do something nice for someone without someone else saying they had insincere motives!! Thats probably why most don't do it!

A Republican, Florida State Representative invited her to move into a house she owned. That had nothing to do with President Obama.

Funny.. didn't the President say someone from his office would talk to her after the event? Obviously it is a Republican that helped, the Dems and their bureauacracy is why she's homeless!

Could you please explain how the Dems made her homeless. I mean really, other than just spouting this gargage, what in the heck does it even mean. Do you even know what you mean when you say this? Republicans have controlled congress for 12 of the past 16 years. How then do they avoid even 1% of the criticism when they have controlled the purse strings for nearly 75% of the past two decades.

Do you realize how people who must have, say, a 3rd grade education level are coming to the Messiah and asking him for a house with a kitchen and bathroom of their own, thinking the President has the ability to hand out houses? Did you hear the reporter recommend that Obama fire the President of a particular corporation...as if the President of the U.S. HAS that ability? Our liberal education system has taught these people things that ARE NOT the case. They don't know history...or the precepts of the Constitution....or what any particular section of government can and can't do. Thanks to the in-the-tank press they think Obama is God.
All I can say is: In two years, voters, PLEASE don't screw up again. Vote in more Republicans to thwart the partisan Marxist-liberalism that was escorted in with Komrade Obama. SAVE OUR COUNTRY FROM TURNING INTO VENEZUELA!!!

Listen for the trillion dollars of ours that they just handed out to these scumbag execs to misappropiate again, they could have cut every single taxpayer in America a check for a 100 grand. Tell me that wouldn't have stimulated the economy! All they are doing is giving it too big companies who in turn put the senators on there board of directors and then pay them off! Like Tom Daschle to the tune of 6 million bucks last year that, that greedy bastard squeezed out of companies. I don't think he needs to be anyone looking over healthcare. Anyone who takes 6 million from that industry in speaking fees and board of directors handouts is on the take.

Greg - What about a $5,000 cash distribution? How about this instead? How about making EVERYONE that earns a paycheck, pay SOMETHING for income tax instead of just the 41% that do? And how about if those that owe on their credit cards and the mortgage they probably can't afford anyway, how about if those people just sit home, eat at home, and SAVE their money instead of spending. The only people I truly feel sorry for are the people who are truly disabled. Old Henrietta has been out of work for quite a while, she is rather old, but her young son looked pretty healthy. How about him getting a job? I'm sick of reading about these cases by the boatload, all with their hands out begging. Thank goodness OCTO MOM is in the news, I hope people wake up and realize we've all been suckered.

I was amazed that she asked the president directly for help. It would be interesting to find out what help she actually received.
