Circuit City reduces inventory -- the easy way
Filed under: Extracurriculars, Ripoffs and Scams, Shopping
This is really just a story about simple thievery, but the details are just too good not to share. It seems that the employees of a Circuit City store in North Carolina simply watched a $2300 television walk out the door.
What's even more amazing, as related by the article at SalsburyPost.com, is that one well meaning CC employee even offered to assist the thieves in fastening the heisted television to the top of their car. Unfortunately, the crooks departed before the employee could fully assist them.
It wasn't until the car had been observed to leave the store parking lot, in a blaze of unpaid shopping glory, that the manager of the Circuit City store in question determined that none of his underlings had taken any cha-ching in exchange for the now liberated electronic entertainment appliance.
So, if you're in the neighborhood, and you happen to see two guys with really big grins and a 67-inch Samsung television riding on the roof of their nondescript, red, four-door sedan, hop on over to the closest Circuit City store, and find out if they're still giving away any of those free ones.

With nads that size, and with the help from the well intentioned CC employee, the "perps" should get to keep the unit.

I had always appreciated that Circuit City did not have the receipt nazis posted up at the doors where everyone is a thief until proof is provided in the form of a sales slip.
Now it seems that may change at CCITY as we will probably see the annoying receipt checkers at their doors as well.

The text attached to the photograph states that Circuit City closed 700 stores. This is pretty inaccurate, as they only closed 155 before the end of the year. Seeing as the photos are credited as Associated Press, I sure hope that this information cannot be credited to them as well, or else they really need to rethink their employee strategy.

As a business owner of having a retail audio/video store for 35 years. It's no wonder that these things take place. I understand Circuit City got rid of all the higher paid knowledgeable salesman who got comissions and went with lower paid order takers at a low salary with no commisions (translates to doesn't matter if I sell this or not, and can't really address customers needs). They deserve what they end up with. Makes more sense to go with fewer qualified people than just filling hours with order takers. A few have to know what they are doing, but many never have been exposed to what the public would try to pull on them.

Later that day, the perps called the store to say they couldn't wall mount the item. Two employees arrived a half hour later and took care of it. That's what I call "Customer Satisfaction". Good job guys! Can you come work the store here in Las Vegas, I'd like one of those too!

Its so funny that they Layed the TV down on the top of a car and drove off. Anyone who has ever bought a Flat Screen (Plasma of LCD) know that they have to be upright or the tv may be broken when you get home. I would say a thief would be driving like a maniac to get away and any bump in the road, railroad tracks, ect could have broke the TV.

i work at a consumer electronis store. and for the record you dont have to transport lcd's or plasma's standing upright. if you do you should inform the manufacturers of this fact because they ship them to the stores right side up, on all sides, and upside down, pretty much however they can fit the most into every truck. your just wrong.

The marketplace (and thieves that belong to it) prevail!!!!!
Circuit City fired their most experienced employees in 2003 because they were making too much. Then, again, they wne through and finished the job firing anyone making over $12 an hour.
Now, let's see. Is there a big surprise that what they have left working there even care what goes out the door (much less knowing anything about what is still in the store for sale?).
As with any business (or any life situation), you do dumb things, you can expect dumb things o happen.
It is appalling that Circuit City was even mentioned in Good to Great as they are a glaring example of what not to do, when not to do it, how not to treat your people, and how not to stay in business.
Let's get this over with and see them go under.

I overhead a guy boasting that he "liberated" quite a few tvs from these big stores. According to him, he would just hold an old receipt in his hand, get a trolley and walk out the door. He was just out of jail, because he was so stupid, he would "buy" a new tv once or twice a week and got busted by a suspicious employee who finally WOKE THE HELL UP..

I'm surprised that the theifs got offered help from a CC employee. I was there lately to buy a GPS and when I finally found a sells person to ask a question, they walk away, I did this several times before I could find an employee to sell me the darn thing.
It seems most of them were more interested in talking to each other about their personal life's.
