Buy one Dodge Ram get the second free!
University Dodge in Miami has taken a page out of the Payless Shoes playbook and is offering Buy One Get One on all new Dodge Rams in stock. The dealership in Miami is offering the major incentive in an effort to clear out the existing stock on slow moving pickup trucks. This isn't the first time a car dealership has offered a BOGO deal on cars. The closest KIA dealership to me is almost always running a deal for a free sedan with the purchase of a minivan, but it is the first time I have seen such a deal on a Dodge Ram or for that matter any car manufactured by a Big Three American carmaker. Who knows, maybe a BOGO Bailout is just what they need to bring in some quick cash!
If I were in the market for a truck right now, I'd be hitting Craigslist for someone to split the deal with since the only thing better than a buy one get one deal on a new car is to phone a friend and get one for half price. Right now University Dodge still has over 60 Rams in stock but if you want to get in on this deal I'd get moving, with two trucks leaving the lot on every sale, even with a slow month University Dodge could have an empty lot before you know it.

This is funny, since all dealers in the USA claim they only make $1000-2000 per auto sold, how on earth can they virtually sell a car at half price? Have they been telling us a tall tale all these years?

Maybe the company is giving them the other one so it would cost the dealer nothing. Sounds too good to be true and probably is not.????

That is not a tall tale. i work at a dealership and typically the profit from a car ranges from $1000 - $3000. My guess is that these dealers are making this offer to try to counteract the LOSSES they would incur from having to wholesale the units that they can not move.

They say they only make $1000-$2000 off the sale itself...what they don't tell you is the money they make from the factory in "factory to dealer incentives". In this particular BOGO deal, I assume there are a couple of factors in play.....One is that you are not getting any break off the sticker price for vehicle #1 and #2 is the dealer is getting a larger than usual kickback for clearing his lot.
Another possibility....there could be a HUGE bonus from the factory for selling "X" amount of vehicles for a given period. It could be that the dealer is nearing that mark and it is worth it to sell their remaining vehicles at a small to moderate loss in exchange for the reward for selling "X" amount of vehicles.
Whatever the case may be, rest assured that you're not getting as good a deal as you may think and the dealer is NOT going to lose money during this promotion. "If it looks too good to be true......."

I forgot to add something.....I do have a friend who is a Chysler dealer and he told me that the money they make from the customer can sometimes pale in comparison to the money they make off the factory.
He mentioned that at his dealership, they were paid a "lot fee" by the factory for each car they took delivery on.....that fee was, for all intents and purposes, "rent" for the car taking up space in the lot.
Some high-volume dealers operate by cutting the sticker price by the amount (or close to the amount) of money they get for the lot fee. They can sell the car at a lower price because they are getting paid to place the car on their lot, but the car isn't sitting there long....they sell it and order another car to take its place....more lot fees.....that one is sold almost as soon as it comes off the truck and sp on and so forth as the cycle continues.
There are 101 different ways a dealer makes money....but the BIGGEST income getters for a dealer are the sale of options, warranties, and financing bonuses. (I always wondered why they were so interested in the financial agreement between myself and the lender). Check the price of that new CD player and compare it to the price of an aftermarket system. You'll find you could probably get a top of the line audio system for the money you spent on that middle-of-the-road factory set.
In closing...this BOGO truck deal just may be in response to the panic programs the manufacturers devised when gas prices hit $4 a gallon and the factory and dealers were stuck with these huge gas-guzzlers that no one wanted to buy......the dealer may just be getting in under the wire on the programs, selling off the remaining inventory before it expires.
Happy Motoring!!

Wrong answer my friend. That is all they make and all of that is not cash flow either. These guys are just getting the units off the lot to stop paying interest on it.

Car dealers are notorious liars. That is why they pull the old bait and switch routine, bouncing in and out of the sales managers office during the sale. I never realized the mark up in vehicles, until my brother, who was an internet manager for a GMC dealer, told me. I saw actual paperwork! Also all the add ons, such as sun roofs, upgrade sound systems, wheels, etc...have a huge mark up. Dealers make the majority of their profit on the "add ons" and even the extended warranties. Prior to the economy getting so bad, the majority of consumers didnt even keep their vehicles long enough for the extended warranties to come into play! All of this money was pure profit. Further, the more cars a dealer sells, the more incentives he gets on the following years vehicles. The whole thing is a form of "legal" multi level marketing.

of course they have lied (still do ). drive by their homes & you have proof they make MANY thousands per sale & think of their overhaed,, we pay for that when we buy a vechicle & mfgrs. give kick backs just as the banks do. if we all drove our present vehicles one more year we would have the control, but no that big ego says i gotta keep up with the neighbors (where are the neighbors now ?) live within your incomes & america would be just fine. digest it folks or keep making the same mistakes & lose what you have now. my dodge (a 1992) 195000 miles &is going strong & 24 mpg with 3.0 litre .I have pockets full of money ,dealers got none of mine,"happy, shiny trails folks!"

it's math... you have pick-ups on the yard at 20,000 each and dont sell them, you're losing 20,000 ea. and can't decide the future, if you sell it at half price (2x1) you loose half clear your stock and can go forward with different strategy, or close up and go home...

My father checked into the KIA deal and even with perfect credit, he didn't qualify. I don't know if Dodge is the same but the KIA offer is a joke.

Yup Heather....those are called "Loss Leaders". Those are in the newspapaer every Sunday. You'll see a HUGE ad like "2008 Nissan Maxima FULLY LOADED with FULL FACTORY WARRANTY for the Unbelievable Price of $10,995!".
However, when you read the "fine print" on the ad (good luck reading it without a microscope), it will say something like "1 vehicle available at this price, others available with differing options at differing prices"....and when you get there, you will be told "Sorry, but that car has been sold.....however, we do have these ones over here and they are on sale!". (Even though you see these "unbelievable deals" advertised on a weekly basis, I have never ever met a person who was lucky enough to be the one to buy that one vehicle available at that price).
Anyway, the gimmick is to get you in the door and let the salespeople take a whack at you....it seems to be an effective sales trick because they've been doing it forever. The same gimmick applies to "0 % financing" deals that your dad was drawn into....even Bill Gates doesn't seem to qualify for those......lol

Gimmicks, gimmicks, gimmicks. I was in the Auto business for 30 big ones. My book I'm writing will be complete in about a year or so and will reveal everything of the business. No joke, I could be a marked man. In saying that, if you believe you can buy one vehicle minus all the reabtes and discounts allowed--cost is cost folks--and do the same with the other one then get it free? Make an appointment with someone to look at the internal workings of your head. In all probability the dealer is keeping all rebates, no discount, keeping any dealer cash, if any--in other words window sticker--on both vehicles. Remember, their are some vehicles with up to $7000.00 and more in rebates and dealer cash. This still doesn't figure, but nothing says a dealer can't take a loss on vehicles to lower inventory. I guess it's up to you. Be careful. Go to a legit non advertising dealer to price him first. See what his bottom line price is and go from there. Good luck.
