Kraft Foods and Feeding America launch mobile pantry fleet
'Tis the season for giving! At least, the calendar says it is... but all the latest report indicate that charitable giving is on the decline now as the economic downturn forces us to tighten our purse strings more than in years past. To try to combat that trend, Kraft Foods is teaming up with Feeding America, the largest hunger relief charity in the United States, to launch a new fleet of mobile pantries. Kraft is providing the charity with money to purchase 25 refrigerated trucks that will bring food to rural and urban areas where grocery stores and food pantries are difficult to reach. With three trips per week, the mobile pantries should be able to distribute the equivalent of 1.1 million meals per year.
This should set a spark under all of us as we prepare to shrink our holiday budget. We are still, after all, buying presents for our kids and pets. And while me may not feel we can afford to be as generous as usual when it comes to charities -- particularly food as prices keep going up -- we need to remember that there are people out there suffering from starvation. The donation of a couple cans of soup were easy to spare in past years, but it's not so now. Donations to food banks and soup kitchens is at a low point and demand is at a high, which is just a vicious circle as those who used to donate to the food kitchens are now turning to them for help instead, and charities across the country are struggling to keep up with demand.
In all, Kraft is putting $180 million into their efforts to combat hunger. If you have the means to help, think of your local food banks and soup kitchens this holiday season. These establishments can always use more volunteers to sort and serve food, and every donation helps, no matter how large or small.
Charity is the Star

Way to go Kraft Foods. Now if only their competitors could also be generous? America is a wealthy country and our taxpayer dollars are spent feeding others around the World. With our faltering economy, starvation in America is a real problem. America needs to take care of it's own people first. It is a shame and there is no excuse, that any child here should go to bed hungry, yet they do.

the amazeing thing is that kraft and a few othere companies have been doing things like this for decades, and no one ever hears about it, because the "news" medias are more interested in showing you what 5 thousand dollar dress someone is wearing, or who,s sleeping with who,or what new movie you should see, you know the important issues the ones that directly effect you and i ,i just luv watching the "news" so i can know that what to look for on you tube thats much more important to me than knowing who,s helping those who need it so i can help support them, youll have to excuse me now theres a "news" item about a million dollar diamond incrusted bra that i realy need to see

Dear Sir or Madam: If this is the case in your household please do not hesitate to go and ask for a little help from a local church or foodbank. Please don't let pride keep you from having a decent nourishing meal each day. It's good that you put your children first but if you keep starving yourself sooner or later your health will fail and then who will be there to care for your children. I know this is something that can happen right in front of our very eyes and people don't know it. I was with Big Brothers/Big Sisters for 20 years as a volunteer and we knew there were families that may not have food on the table some nights. These were people that if you stood next to them in the line at the post office you would have never known. Please go see someone and get some help for your family until things get a little better for you. Don't give up, keep hanging in there and keep fighting and it will get better. If no where else go to a Lutheran church you can find. As a Lutheran all my life I have never heard of a church in our denomination turn away someone who needs help. If they can't personally they will find someone for you who can. God Bless you and your children.

I'd like to know why people get so worked anout socialism, and redistribution of wealth, when that's exactly what Kraft and all of the other corporate donors are doing. GLobal companies have reached the point of monopoly, with little or no competition to affect pricing as would happen in a true "free" market, so pricing is based on perceived value instead of on production cost with a reasonable profit. In so many areas of our economy, manipulation of the public's perception has been warped by various marketing ploys that prices , giving these companies the money to be magnanimous with your money. I don't know about you, but if someone is going to get a tax break for a charitable contribution, I think it should be the person who actually provide the funding, the consumer.On another note, if food were cheaper, there wouldn't be as many hungry people.

I never stepped out of my "comfort zone." I just live here in red state, married to my cousin and guns, therefor I'm healthy and don't understand how people can be poor or sick...It is their own damn fault as poor people....hehehehe...wink wink

Be silent before the Lord GOD!
For the day of the LORD is at hand;
the LORD has prepared a sacrifice,
he has consecrated his guests.
12At that time I will search Jerusalem with lamps,
and I will punish the people who rest complacently on their dregs,
those who say in their hearts,
"The LORD will not do good, nor will he do harm."
13Their wealth shall be plundered, and their houses laid waste.
Though they build houses, they shall not inhabit them;
though they plant vineyards, they shall not drink wine from them.
14The great day of the LORD is near, near and hastening fast;
the sound of the day of the LORD is bitter,
the warrior cries aloud there.
15That day will be a day of wrath,
a day of distress and anguish,
a day of ruin and devastation,
a day of darkness and gloom,
a day of clouds and thick darkness,
16a day of trumpet blast and battle cry
against the fortified cities and against the lofty battlements.
17I will bring such distress upon people
that they shall walk like the blind;
because they have sinned against the LORD,
their blood shall be poured out like dust,
and their flesh like dung.
18Neither their silver nor their gold
will be able to save them on the day of the LORD's wrath;
in the fire of his passion the whole earth shall be consumed;
for a full, a terrible end he will make of all the inhabitants of the earth.

I think Princess Diana would be so proud of her son William. He's turning into one amazing adult. Here is a son that has taken some terrible tragedies in his life and turned them into a positive influence. If all young people could just do half as much. Now I realize that he has some incredible advantages in life also, but he could have ended up like Paris Hilton just as easily but instead he chose this path in life instead of being the spoiled little rich kid. The British royal family is extremely wealthy but more than almost any other family they devote their ENTIRE time to serving others in numerous other ways. Not many wealthy families other than the Gates can say that. Definitely not Paris Hilton (who never followed though with one single thing she said she would going to do after getting out of prison) or the Walton family. While Bill & Melinda Gates donate approximately 80% of their income now to charity, the Walton family is lucky if they donate 1%. You don't believe it, go check it out. I just very recently saw the latest figures. This vast profit everyone is giving this family is staying right in their own pocket. They don't give it to the employees, the vendors who products they cohorce out of at a scandelously cheap price with threats and almost a mafia type style, not the slave-like labor in Asian and South American countries where the employees work and live in basically ghetto type atmospheres for wages a person cannot live on. The Walton family is NO different than the sweat shop owners back in the turn of the 20th century that employeed thousands of children and caused the necessity of the government to introduce child labor laws. Think of the conditions of Oliver Twist and they haven't improved much more than that in the 21st century. I saw a behind the scenes documentary just about two months ago on the factories own by the Walmart Corporation. This is a family that needs to learn a few lessons from individuals such as Bill Gates, Princess Diana and Princes Willam and Harry. In fact, even Prince Charles does much more with his charities. He has been extremely involved with farming and the feeding of the poor and energy conservation since back when you were considered some kind of a kook to do so. Last weekend I donated 4 bags of groceries to the Boy Scouts to take to our local food bank. It barely made a dent in my pantry. My mother always said I horded food, I guess she's right. But it felt good to pass it onto others. In October I donated several other bags at the church on Harvest Home for the food bank. It everyone who could would do such things we wouldn't have hunger in this country. If people would just stop wasting and see that they gave even a small amount to help feed the hungry the problem would be fixed so fast the country wouldn't believe it. The restaurants need to take the lead in this problem. Ever eat at The Cheesecake Factory? A serving size is as big as a meat platter. More than enough for a family of four. That is pure WASTE. No one individual should eat that much food. If you do you are a hog, a true barnyard animal and I don't care if I insult you or not. But 90% of the people in the restaurant throw away most of the meal. At the same time doors away are people going hungry that may not have eaten in days. What's wrong with this picture. Americans need to stand up and say enough is enough. Europeans don't eat like this, why do we?
