Trick or (little) treat: Will your kids see 'recession' in their bag tonight?
Filed under: Kids and Money, Recession
As I prepare my kids' costumes for the upcoming night of sugar frenzy, I have to wonder, what will they see on the doorsteps of our neighborhood? Will the terrible stock market affect my neighbors' candy budgets? Do any homeowners nearby have to make the decision to spend their spare cash on their mortgage, not sweets, or face foreclosure? How will this year compare to last?WalletPop parents out there, tell me: how are the treats where you live? Have you cut back on candy due to financial woes? Do you think your kids will come home tonight with Tootsie Rolls and hard candies? Or is a Snickers bar the only thing saving you from complete depression?

i just went out and got 2 extra bags..when we were kids..long time ago,lol we hated the few homes that were dark..meaning no one home or go away..the tough kids egged those places..
i prefer to be able to hand out something hey, they have way smaller candies now..but then halloween is far more decor wise than the sixties or fifties..

In past years, we have always had 200 to 300 trick-or-treaters. I bought my usual volume of candy, and I'll say we only had about 75 trick-or -treaters this year. I was also surprised that most of the other houses on my street had their cars in their garages and their lights turned out. My neighbor across the street and myself were the only ones giving out candy. I would say the economy definitely had a negative impact on Halloween!!

My daughter and I went out and just got back and we were very disappointed this Halloween, especially her. You could tell that the recession has hit because most of the homes on the streets that we traveled had no lights and were not at home and several people came to the door and told the children that they were not giving out any candy.
