Crocs: Eating its own success?
The brightly colored Crocs were all the rage a year or two ago. Originally designed for gardening, their popularity quickly spread to toddlers, teens, teachers and other professionals. It was not uncommon to see Crocs at the mall, at work and even in church. But now, the company that couldn't keep up with demand has Crocs piling up in warehouses. The stock price has fallen dramatically from its heights earlier this year, when it was trading around $75, and the stock plunged nearly 51% in July after the company lowered its second-quarter guidance. There is even a new escalator warning cautioning folks not to wear Crocs on escalators. Apparently a few people have had exposed toes stuck in the steps.
What happened to Crocs? They simply were a victim of success. They became so popular, they are no longer unusual or unique. No one stops to ask you where you got them or if they are comfortable, because they are everywhere and they also probably own a pair. Crocs changed from being "cool" to being "dork."
Many of us are now wondering what we saw in Crocs in the first place. Who ever said that bright pink, sweaty, clown shoes were cool? Yet, I am the first to admit that they are handy. Great at the pool...perfect to run out and get the mail.
But I'm glad I only bought one pair. I'm going to use them for gardening.

Never owned a pair, never want to own a pair. Cannot figure out why ugly shoes, that give you big ugly feet, ever became so popular. Hideous colors, PLASTIC for goodness sakes, just aweful. And please don't talk about "comfort" - there are so many other GOOD LOOKING comfortable shoes on the market that this is not a reason to look bad. America in general has just lost it's sense of personal dignity. People wear anything in public these days, pajamas, the ubiquitous hoodie, sweats, ripped jeans, dirty sneakers - it's appalling. Young men with their underwear sticking out of their pants; young women with EVERYTHING sticking out of their clothes. And then their parents come home with those horrible shoes - how can they possibly provide any guidance to their kids regarding appropriate attire? Nurses and doctors used to purchase foot gear made for their occupation - now crocs.
The sooner this company goes under the sooner people can go out and purchase a pair of shoes.

I agree, I thought they were hideous when they came out, and still think they are hideous. They remind me of the "jelly shoes" that were popular in the early 80's, and plastic shoes suck! I can't see how comfortable these can be when your feet are sweating like dickens 'cause the shoes don't breathe.
I also agree about having "wtf" moments when I see what some people wear in public. Yeah, I might walk out to the paper box or mail box in my pj's or sweats, but, I would never dream of wearing them in public, much less wearing bedroom slippers in public. Does no one have pride in their appearance anymore? I'm not saying you have to wear head-to-toe designer stuff, but, shucks, a clean, well-fitting pair of jeans and tee shirt, with clean, nice looking tennis shoes looks a sight better than a ratty sweatpants set and crocs or bedroom shoes!
I never got the whole boxers sticking up out of your pants bit, either, though, I do enjoy having the chance to tell the offenders to pull their britches up before they fall plumb off. I do believe I'm becoming a curmudgeon in my late 30's.

Two years ago, I bought 2 pairs of Crocs look-a-likes at Walmart to wear out in the garden. I could rinse off my feet while standing in them and then leave them outside the door when I finished. If it rained on them, it didn't hurt them. Mud certainly doesn't hurt them. However, to wear them in public? Uh, NO.

ok, when i first saw those croc's, I had absolutely no intentions of ever buying a pair. However, this year I thought I would try a cheap version in Dollar General,. Well, since then, i bought 3 more pair and wear them everywhere! YES everywhere. I am 63 years old and these are the most comfortable footwear I have ever worn. Is there any rule saying at what age you should wear what? If i had my way, I would go barefoot. lol
