$1 cereal: save with Malt-O-Meal!
As a lifelong lover of cereal, soaring commodity costs have been messing with my head. The tipping point was a recent trip to New York City when a supermarket was charging $5.69 for a 14 ounce box of shredded wheat. Now that I'm back on Cape Cod, cereal is somewhat more affordable but, as you may have noticed, they've been shrinking the boxes lately. On a recent visit to Stop & Shop, I came face to face with the company that is my new hero: Malt-O-Meal, which sell high quality cereal in resealable plastic bags at a price of 99 cents each (At Stop & Shop, and it wasn't a sale!) for 12 ounces, at least 75% off comparable name-brand products in carboard boxes.
I'm eating a bowl at this very moment and, honestly, I don't think it tastes any different. Even better, because the packaging is just the plastic instead of the usual cardboard and plastic, this is one bargain item that qualifies as green-friendly.
To find a store offering this discount cereal in your area, use the company's store locater. Better yet, click here to print out some coupons that will make your first bags free!

I agree, I'm not a big cereal eater but I always buy Malt-O-Meal when I do. it is just as good if not better than the high priced brands. Down here in Alabama, they have bags of cereal at $1 as well. Good deal and good food.

Malt-O-Meal cereals are the best thing since slice bread !! I came across them by accident and figured "hey, why not ?" How bad could they be......... even at that low price since other big companies have their cereals priced at almost 3x the amount of Malt-O-Meal and they're a smaller box. So, go ahead people, save your money for other things and buy Malt-O-Meal cereals, you won't be sorry !!

I don't think that "commodity costs" were the "lifelong lover of cereal", as the opening sentence indicates. Grammar is always important in order that the message gets across clearly.
And yes, they have been shrinking boxes and all other sorts of packaging. It is easier to fool the public that way, although I think today's consumer is becoming more of a label-reader and so is less easy to deceive. Many stores now sell cereal and grain products in bulk; buying that way can be a big savings per pound for the careful shopper.

I don't know what kind of deals you guys are getting, but I've noticed Malt-O-Meals brand cereals going up in price here in Philadelphia. Although they are mainly cheaper than the other brands, some of them are pretty close in price now.
Malt-O-Meals used to boast of much cheaper prices because they'd skimp on the boxes, packaging and advertising costs. That's when I loved to buy them and would stock up on them. However, I have seen them in boxes more and more now, higher up on the shelves, AND I've seen a few Malt-O-Meals cereal commercials (a guy in glasses and a suit walking while crouched and explaining about the "bargains" on the lower shelves). All of these things have pushed the price of a once GREAT bargain up and up.

Yeah, I've seen the same thing. I remember them being $1 for a giant bag a while ago, but I was just shopping at walmart in orlando and find them to be almost the same price as the name brands. Pretty disappointing
