Ugliest shoes coming soon to feet around the world
Filed under: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Charity
Crocs will be making their way to feet everywhere, thanks to a new SolesUnited campaign to collect old shoes for recycling. The program was announced last night on "The Celebrity Apprentice," and it asks people to donate their worn-out Crocs so they can be remade into recycled Crocs that will be donated around the world. These shoes made of recycled products are going to countries in which many people do not currently have any shoes. Crocs is outfitting them to help them avoid injuries to their feet and help them walk more. In January alone, 90,000 pairs of shoes were sent to developing countries around the world. These shoes are embossed with a special logo to indicate that they are made of recycled plastic and are intended for charity (not to be sold).
I don't care what anyone says about the comfort of Crocs, I will never, ever wear a pair. I may not be a fashion queen, but even I won't wear anything that ugly. But I get it... the shoes are popular with many and the company has done well on Wall Street. Kudos to Crocs for expanding this program to get more shoes on the feet of those who need them. This is a great program!

They may be ugly but at least theres a damn fine charity going on here. I don't see the second ugliest shoes in the world doing anything but promoting stupidity and arrogance amongst our youth and delusional women.

Dear Tracy,
Just because you have a lot of letters after you name doesn't make you smart or qualified to pass judgement on what is ugly or beautiful. You may be qualified to count beans but leave your fashion comments in the closet where they belong.

Then who, pray tell, is qualified to pass judgement on such a subjective thing as an object's aesthetic appeal?
That's all it is. Subjective opinion.
I don't understand why one person's opinion should be any more or less valid on such an ambiguous thing.
Get over yourself.

Hi Joe - Thanks for your thoughtful comment. Thankfully, AOL says I can express my opinion on fashion and a whole lot of other things. And I've accepted their invitation to do so, both now and in the future. Thanks again for your participation.

Currently being a "fat old retired teacher" who was once part of the "hippie generation", I LOVE my "CROCS" AND I am delighted to know that they can be recycled & given out for charity. When I lived in New Zealand, the terrain was very unforgiving to my Florida born feet. I can only imagine what going barefoot must be like in many countries.

I work in a hospital and purchsed a pair of Crocs solely based on price. About a week after I started wearing them, I started to limp. A week after that, the pain in my knees was unbearable. It occured to me that it could be the Crocs. I stopped wearing them and after about 3 days, the pain disappeared.

I have to agree with RPERIN. I purchases the real deal "Crocs", As a RN that spends 13-16 hours a day on my feet, I wanted to discover the sheer comfort of these trendy shoes, I must say that the toes would s top when the rest of me kept going and I almost landed on my face a few times, my back and knees rebelled, after a week of trying to fit into the croc fan club, I went back to my "shocs". I have a few pairs of crocs to donate to this cause and wish those who choose to wear them well.

Is it better than no shoes at all? Well if they don't like them, then someone else will be chosen to make a new purpose for them, Recycle. A person needs to start thinking about what products they buy, can I use it for another purpose after it no longer fits my needs. Reduce. Reusing is only smart and needs to be development in our daily deeds. Styrofoam, papertowels, and plastic product wrapping are the most accumulating in our garbage industry. As long as we don't have to see it, right. If we had to throw our garbage in our back yards, we'd be alot more careful what we threw out, unless your a hillbilly.
