I can't believe it's not a greenback

Counterfeit $100 bills are circling the globe, and their story is intriguing. These bills are so well done that that it's next to impossible to tell that they're fakes. They've been dubbed "supernotes" because of their precision.Experts say these are the most sophisticated examples of counterfeit U.S. currency ever seen. They are made of the exact same cotton and linen mix from which legitimate U.S. currency is made. They even have the proper-colored microfibers and an embedded strip that glows under ultraviolet light... both key pieces of currency that are supposed to be difficult to counterfeit. The fake bills also have the proper microprint and optically variable ink (OVI) that distinguishes authentic U.S currency.
Authorities say the bills haven't been printed in large quantities. Only $50 million of supernotes have been found since 1989, which is estimated to be too little to even cover the cost of the sophisticated printing process required.
Some experts say the organization doing this almost certainly has access to some of the government's printing equipment. Some are even suggesting that the government itself is printing these fake notes for intelligence purposes. Others think that it may be foreign governments doing it to undermine the value of the dollar and the strength of our economy.
The counterfeiters have had an unusual ability to keep up with changes in the currency. Since 1989, there have been 19 changes to real U.S. currency, and the counterfeiters have mastered them all. However, there are some small differences in the fake notes, and experts wonder why such good counterfeiters would print money with obvious errors.
The counterfeiting remains a mystery, as experts say that the cost of producing these bills definitely exceeds the amount put into circulation. So what would be the purpose of the counterfeiting? Whatever the case, our government isn't commenting on the issue.

It doesn't matter what steps the government takes. It doesn't matter how complex the process becomes, or what safeguards are put in place. Criminals are criminals, and almost anything that can be made can be duplicated.

I will bet you anything this is the work of a foreign government. Most likely Iran or North Korea, and since Al-Qaida is determined to undermine our economy I'm sure they are working very closely with certain governments to do so.

$50 million may not be enough to cover the costs legally, but illegally may be a different story.
the right people with the right motivation and connections make many things possible.
that is the spirit of the thing of itself right there.

I have heard of these genuine conterfeits. I seem to remember that the government has decided that they are so good, they're making no real effort to remove them from circulation. As long as they'll run through the slot machines in the casinos.

You'd think if they wanted to figure out if there were more of these counterfeit bills that they would tell us what the "obvious errors" were in the bills so that people could actually come forward about it.

This was exposed back in late 1980's by Coin World and Numismatic News both weekly coin collecting publications. They had info that fully half the foreign countries holding U.S.currency had these super counterfeits in their treasures. The view at that time was it was being produced by Iranian Govt.on a printing press given to the former Shah of Iran by our BEP.There was an article in main steam media about a year or so later that fessed up these notes existed but informed the world Govts that were holding these notes that they would still honor them.

what's to keep the us government from floating these fake bills? bu$hco has been busy destroying the us economy, from just about every other angle, so why not float a few of these bills - enough to make news, but not enough, as the article states, to make it cost effective to "fight"...make us fearful sheeple more readily accept debit cards (for fear of actually getting one of these worthless 100s) that can follow all our purchases...and therefore everything we do.

Its not that they are criminals. Maybe they are just tired of being poor. Can't pay taxes on free money can you. Drop a couple million off of the welfare system and that will more than make up for any lost revenue.

There is so much money going through our hands everyday. What would you do if you really and truly thought you had a 100 in your hot little hand?

It's our own government doing it. Don't you see? It's too good not to be them. That's what they use to pay our debts with and give us our tax returns.

What if someone wanted a world currency. To deflate the US dollar would cause us to accept the currency of what could be a new order.
