Ken and Daria,
My credit score is 657. My wife and I want to refinance our mortgage, but we need a higher score to get a good interest rate. What can we do to boost our credit score before we talk to our lender?

I was denied an increase to my heloc from $150k ( which at the time in 2005 was a 680 average) to 300k to pay off my 1st mortgage of 50k @ 6.625% and with the ARM droppping- presently at 5.75 before my lock whiich is 5%.
My credit scores were 710, 723, 740+, no credit balances (pay one bank credit card for my monhtly gas and online bills in full by the due date), new car paid in full with use of heloc and savings, only have a mortgage payment and heloc payment +/- 1800./mo with my taxes. Put all my free discretionary money towads balance of heloc ( highest interest rate) but they say I do not qualify even if i went for additional 100k. what could i do when they bring old laundry on the credit. have been with the same chase (jp chase) for some time and this bothers me knowing the person i spoke to had 5 years with the bank and not in this department all that time. i am employed by the goverment, make a good salary plus have other income with no bills other than my utilities, basic cable-frugal here.
any help greatly appreciated.

nothing you can do unless you have pristine credit will help you now. I had a card from Home Depot, looked at my credit report and they canceled the card even though it had a 0 balance. Why? because I wasn't using the card.
Its all a game and we cant win because they keep changing the rules.

...and that means that the 4000.00 credit line has changed and dropped my asset to debt ratio. It appears now I have more dept because the 4000 credit was taken away. Just a slight and subtle "I got you"

Hi, Mr & Mrs. Dolan!
Can you please tell me what to do if I've filed bankruptcy in 2005, cancelled too much of my credit card history and have only one credit card now with an $850 limit. Which is almost maxed out. Also, which credit bureau score are you referring to with these online presentations? Experian? Equifax? or Trans Union?.....Thanks a lot!

THE THREE CREDIT BUREAUS ARE IN BED WITH THE BANKS/CREDIT CARD/LENDERS. THE RULES OF THE GAME CHANGE DAILY TO SUIT THEIR GOALS. HOW CAN YOU PLAY THE GAME IF YOU DON'T KNOW THE RULES. KEEPING SOMETHING ON YOUR CREDIT REPORTS FOR 7 YEARS EVEN AFTER YOU PAY IT IS A JOKE. I AGREE IF YOU DON'T PAY A DEBT, IT BELONGS ON THE REPORT. IF YOU PAY IT, THE DEBT SHOULD NOT BE ON THERE FOR LONGER THAN A YEAR. MY INCOME IS 10 TIMES WHAT IT WAS 7 YEARS AGO AND I PAY EVERYTHING ON TIME, YET MY SCORE IS STILL BELOW AVERAGE. WE ARE SOON TO CHANGE THE RULES OF THE GAME. ARE YOU IN?
